Survival games aren’t always the cheeriest of places (after all, you have to have something to survive against), but a new game might make other titles seem like a trip to the local candy, puppies, and fireworks store.
The Black Death plops players in the role of a medieval commoner who must not only make a living somehow but do so amidst one of the worst pandemics that history has ever seen. Players can choose from one of 10 classes, explore a period Western Europe, buy property, and compete against the wildlife, fellow villagers, and the infected (which look to be more like zombies here). Why not be a Minstrel who’s cheering up those sore-ridden souls with a few top 40 hits?
Early access for The Black Death will begin in March on Steam. You can check out its teaser trailer after the jump.

Goddamn it.
mysecretid FacelessSavior First time I see the For Honor trailer, it reminds me rather strongly of Dragon Age. I’ll keep my fingers crossed!
Vexia +1 like, because memories…
ManastuUtakata mysecretid Oooh, another whisky lover! You should try Laphroaig, it’s the best!
No kissing for me this weekend!!!

The thought of livefyre “authentication” process going south did cross my mind. If the vetting mechanics did go down, that would quite likely been the issue.
That said, and before anyone gets confuse, the accounts of Utakata and ManastuUtakata belong to the same pink Gnome. <3
I like the setting and the idea of classes in that type of game intrigues me, but all the survival MMOs i ve played the last years seem to be a huge cash grab.

Yeah, there is that feeling that the Black Death continues to be seen as an historical catastrophe by some people, largely because it happened to their specific ancestors, and if it had happened to people of a different culture, it may have merely been seen as an historical oddity or “talking point”, despite the devastation.
Norlamin So sick of the Zombie overload.
mjfife85Â Yeah, SJWing this shit is downright offensive. We’ve got genocides that are STILL happening to this day and we’re bitching about disease victims from 700 years ago? That died a natural (if horrific) death.
Complete and utter bullshit. Bullshit that is compounded by this niggling suspicion I have that no one would care about the “insensitivity” of the black death had it swept through say…Africa, instead of Western Europe.
