Blade & Soul’s first major patch arrives on February 10th

Happy first patch to you, game.

The great part about games that were localized after being out in their native country for some time is that there’s no dearth of material for patches. Blade & Soul just launched here in North America last week, but players can look forward to the game’s first major patch landing on February 10th with a nice pile of additional endgame content.

The Rising Waters patch adds the Blackshade Harbor as a new Heroic dungeon for four or six party members, with Nightshade Harbor serving as a 24-player version of the same instance. Players can also explore Mushin’s Tower as a solo Heroic dungeon, providing ever-greater challenges for players who make it to the heights of the tower (the limit with this patch will be the seventh floor). Further Hongmoon levels will allow advancement past the level cap, and players will also be able to get in on the first PvP preseason. Sure, it’s a couple of weeks away, but if you’ve already consumed all that the game can offer you at endgame for the moment, be confident that there is more to come.

The combat in this game (so far (I’m an assassin)) is worthy of note-taking for some future MMO dev team.  You do a cool move/ability and right away have an opening to do another.  Can’t imagine the combat system getting stale any time soon.  On the other hand…you have the story and world…

DeadlyAccurate NoctisGray It is possibly to solo any dungeon. However, the higher-level purple and blue dungeons absolutely require a certain level of gear before you can even attempt to solo them. Obviously, trying to do so before reaching this point will result in a very frustrating experience (and you likely failing all DPS checks).

Veldan DeadlyAccurate Yep. Some of them can be done solo if you play smart, like the Sentinel dungeon in the desert and the Augurite dungeon in Moonwater.

Mushin’s Tower is designed specifically as a skill-based solo dungeon with increasing rewards, and I think that’s where the game shines. Sure, parties are pretty fun in a flashy DPS-race sort of way, but fighting a challenging 1v1 encounter gets my adrenaline going.

DeadlyAccurate There seem to be different “tiers” of dungeons. When I open the dungeon panel, they are marked as green, blue and purple. Some of the green ones I solod, despite the warnings that they were intended for more than one player. I did only one purple dungeon so far, but that one I could have never solod. So I guess the “important” instances at endgame will not be soloable.

Or if the other people in the same area killing the same mobs you are say ‘No thanks” and decline your invitation to group up for a few minutes, which seem to be my particular problem.
Can lead a horse to water, but can’t make them group up with you, even if you don’t want to solo.

NoctisGray Is it possible to take on the 6-man dungeons solo? (Some games you can do that; I soloed some 6-man dungeons in Neverwinter, for example).

I could be mistaken as I couldn’t understand a good part of the quest text when I played the japanese version (or russian, for that matter, with its terrible machine translation) but I feel like the english localisation team has changed a lot of the dialogue and dumbed it down a bit. For one, I was sure there werent as many cowardly male gon quest npcs in the other versions. And we’ve already heard about how a questline about a perverted npc spying on women and eventually learning he was wrong, has been changed to another generic scholar studying people character. You’d still be doing the same fetch and talk to npc quests, but I could swear the actual dialogue was more interesting in non english versions.

I still think it’s highly disingenuous to require players to PvP for PvE content, rather than simply obtaining them through doing PvE content instead. I am pretty sure that doesn’t require much coding for them to do such. But as it stands, it’s one of those things I consider game breaking for me.
…either way though, thanks for explaining that to me.

Cool! I very much like running dungeons solo as a test of my skill, and it sounds like Mushin Tower will definitely deliver.
