PWE’s 2014 wuxia MMORPG Swordsman Online lands on Steam

These days, if you’re not on Steam, you’re throwing money away, a lesson more and more MMORPG studios are learning lately. Perhaps that explains why Perfect World Entertainment has today released wuxia MMORPG Swordsman on Valve’s platform (but we’re guessing the launch of another wuxia MMO in recent weeks might have a little something to do with it too). Says PWE,

“This was a move long in the making, and we would like to take the time to welcome all of our players new and old to our new platform! For those of you joining our amazing community for the first time, Swordsman is a 3D Martial Arts MMORPG based upon the epic novel written by Louis Cha.

In the beautiful yet deadly world of Swordsman, you are a wandering hero in search of justice as you track down the villains who destroyed your village. Your journey will take you to some famous locations such as the Shaolin Temple, Wutang Mountains, Fu Giu City, the Guilded Wastelands and more.

Along the way, you will meet some colorful and unique characters to aid in your journey. Join one of 10 unique schools of Martial Arts including Shaolin, Wu-tang, Five Venoms, Splendor, Infinity, Sun and Moon Cult, Zephyr, House Tong, Harmony, and E’mei! Join a guild and make your own legend. Are you a bandit? A hero? Only you will decide!”

We last took a long look at the game back in late 2014 around the time of its Gilded Wasteland expansion. The game launched in July of that same year.

Watched a gameplay video.  All I saw was dizzily spinning screens and constantly flashing neon colors.  Looks like it’s designed for the average ADD 13 year old.  Pass.

I remember trying to play this game…multiple times. No matter how many times I reinstalled, no matter how many ‘fixes’ I tried, the game wouldnt launch and just errored. I wasnt the only one who had it happen, but there was no official response to it that I could find even months later. I hope with steam I could play it, although Im pretty caught up with Blade and Soul right now.

I’d certainly like to try it at some point :)

A Dad Supreme no, black desert isn’t.
it’s still a strange mix of asian charakters, movements, classes and one of the nices ‘western middle ages’ sceneries since skyrim. (with desert biome added after launch, for EU). i also think the tuned down the annoying yells that come with every swordstroke in those ‘wuxia’ games. at least i felt a difference between KR servers and the EU beta …

I think I’ve had my fill of ‘wuxia’ after Blade and Soul. Great combat, but hated just about everything else in this game for some reason especially the story.
Black Desert isn’t wuxia, is it? (please say no)

The problem with Swordsman was it was a open world gankfest once you hit level 20. Knew the game was going fail from the start.
