More souls and massive tech improvements head to RIFT this year

As RIFT approaches its fifth birthday this spring, Executive Producer Chris Junior revealed many exciting changes and improvements that are coming to the game.

The fun begins with the next major update, Patch 3.6, which is being released half in April and half in May. The update will contain new souls for all callings, a beefed-up anniversary event, a daily login reward system, PvP improvements, and a new intrepid instant adventure. Junior said that 2016 also will be “the year of tech” for RIFT, as game engineers are working on true multicore support and converting the MMO to a 64-bit client.

“We’re making a few changes to ensure that RIFT’s next five years are as full of amazing developments and breathtaking content as the first five,” he posted. “We’ll continue to evolve and change in this area, finding exciting and fair ways to reward those who support RIFT for all of us to enjoy. It’s a tough balance, but it’s a task we never take lightly. We’ll continue to listen to feedback and find ways to address your concerns when we do make changes, so that together we make RIFT as healthy and successful as it deserves.”

Sorenthaz  Multicore can be such a paradigm shift for programming, that it taking ’13 to ’16, is believable, especially if it kept having resources borrowed to get an expansion out.

Celestial SallyBowls1  Just saw this today:

William Holt, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Intel’s Technology and Manufacturing Group, has said at a conference that chips will become slower after industry re-tools for new technologies such as spintronics and tunneling transistors. “The best pure technology improvements we can make will bring improvements in power consumption but will reduce speed.” If true, it’s not just the end of Moore’s Law, but a rolling back of the progress it made over the last fifty years.

I still ask myself how this game would be if it didn’t had any class restriction. Only souls.
And i won’t bother with this game before they change the character models because…my god.

ZenDadaist “single instance queueing” one is the one that really annoys me.

hardy83 Hanthos Greaterdivinity “The earring thing and water attunement… Yeah, I can easily see that being a line that people don’t like being crossed. I “bought” the expansion and it doesn’t really affect me, but I can see that it’s a P2W paywall, and can picture people preferring that the zones be paywalled rather than something that affects player performance.” I have both unlocked on my main but it was the line not to be crossed to me, so I uninstalled (and then decided, to heck with it, and uninstalled Glyph and all its games I still had). I may check in again with either these tech improvements or a 4.0.

Update time: Trion is removing Rested XP, single instance queueing and Dungeon charges for accounts that are not active Patrons. They’re calling it ‘Improvements to Patron’ which is, quite frankly, insulting.

Adding “improvements” to something Trion makes is like adding a shiny new seat to a bicycle with no wheels.

Does anyone know if this includes DX11 support or they’ll stick to DX9?
