Square-Enix’s 2015 sales and profits were up, thanks in part to Final Fantasy XIV

Raid your FC chest, sure.
Square-Enix’s fiscal results for the last three-quarters of 2015 are in, and it’s good news all around. Net sales were up almost 30% year-over-year, resulting in profits boosted by a nearly quarter compared to 2014.

The company attributed its success to multiple franchises and console launches. MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV is named twice as a strong performer.

“During the nine-month period ended December 31, 2015, sales of character goods derived from the Group’s own IPs increased, primarily thanks to the release of the first expansion disc of FINAL FANTASY XIV.”

“Revenues from operation and expansion disc sales of massively multiplayer online role playing games such as FINAL FANTASY XIV and DRAGON QUEST X are sustaining their strong performances.”

It’s not counting all the overpriced mobile games they (re)released?

cheesybites76 I think the first time I tried it, right after the ARR relaunch, I felt pretty ‘meh’ about it.  My husband loved it, so we played for a while until my ‘meh-ness’ became deafening  I played a few times in between, but this last time I’ve actually had a lot of fun.  If you are so inclined, it might be worth another whirl.  I’ve had a lot of fun this last go-round.

Sorenthaz jeremy2020 As much as I like the WiiU – I think you are right.  It doesn’t have the install base in the US.  Hopefully the NX (whatever it is) does better.

No, they didn’t. A solid start mean that they failed (and we already know that Tomb Raider was a massive flop).
This is business speech, not honesty. Same thing with every report, they use positive terms with varying nuances, they won’t come out to say what game’s failure forced their developpers to commit sudoku to protect SE’s honor.

They just can’t neglect to mention their AAA games, but Dragon Quest Heroes or Rise of Mana? Not a word on those. The first drowned in the charts, the second close down next month.

But of course, that would make a different narrative to say so. Like when Heavensward didn’t set things on fire.

jeremy2020 A Wii U MMO would probably not fly too well in the West.

Now it would be nice if they put more of those funds back into the game for the dev team.

vicariousfan Snky SallyBowls1 Probably for a year or so but what’s the point if the game ends up dead in the long run?  I think SE and Blizzard have shown they are willing to be in the game for the long hault for their MMOs.
