Dragon Nest Europe tech issues takes game offline for days, loses some data

It’s been a grim week for Dragon Nest Europe, as technical issues forced the team to take the game offline on February 2nd for several days.

The original announcement called this a “very grave situation,” a point that was underlined two days later when the studio announced that some data had been lost due to these problems. So what went down the drain? “All titles, missions, quests, achievements, NPC points, guild points, cooking details, fishing details, trading house items, as well as inventory and storage items are gone for now. Cash items have also been wiped.”

Dragon Nest EU came back online on Friday the 5th, with the team promising that it would attempt to restore most of the lost items. All guilds have been reset to level 1 and will need to be adjusted in the coming weeks. There’s also a “lavish” compensation package waiting for all players for the downtime and inconvenience.

I can’t believe I overlooked this over the weekend! This is sort of loss is kind of a huge deal. I can’t believe the incompetence, for two publishers apparently!

2 years of data? I mean, I guess it’s better than accidentally deleting your entire game, but this is damn close.

Ouch, that’s terrible.  I hope they get things back up and running with minimum losses.

That’s a lot of “some” data!

Cotic_OP That’s the most interesting part. Previous publisher of the game somehow… er… broke main servers, and the game switched to backup servers to operate. When Shanda games took over, they decided it’s OK and continue use backup servers as the only set. Well… It worked for some time… )))

This should not be a problem.

So, no back up.  Good thinking.  I mean who needs a back up?

Makes you wonder what their backup systems are? If I was playing this game I’d be more concerned about what they are doing to ensure it doesn’t happen again than knowing how I’m getting my gear back.
When you have a filesystem like ZFS available for anybody to use – is there really any excuse for this sort of data loss?
