ArcheAge bans raiding guild for Leviathan exploit

One raiding guild in ArcheAge is feeling the heavy hand of studio justice this weekend, as Trion Worlds has levied the boom against over 50 players who utilized an exploit in order to take down a previously undefeated world boss.

Trion said that it responded to multiple reports that the guild Rage Quit used an exploit to kill Leviathan on a North American server and investigated the case carefully. The situation was compounded by the guild keeping the loot, not reporting the issue, and even trying to leverage more goods from the studio in exchange for explaining how the exploit was done.

Instead of capitulating to the demand, Trion instead permanently banned the 53 players involved in the exploit, removed the loot from the game, and disbanded the guild.

“If Rage Quit contacted us to let us know what happened and attempted to avoid profiting from this kill, all of us would be having a very different conversation,” Trion Worlds explained. “Instead, the guild took the kill, failed to report the issue, and one member attempted to further profit at the expense of the greater community. In light of all of this information, we are standing by our policy and issuing permanent bans.”

Trion said that it notified XLGAMES of the exploit and that it considers Leviathan undefeated to date.

Collusion TonySan There’s way too much salt in this reply.  Come to think a troll getting their entire guild banned should be a bit more boasty than this, lol.

Qarran And the incident was reported:  http://i.imgur.com/6DRn6GP.png

In seeing this, Celestrata said, “In looking at the account ID, the person who posted this report is not one of the accounts that were banned.”

We were going to get banned regardless.  She hangs out with people who really don’t like us, so it was a witch hunt from the beginning.

ihatevnecks morphyroc Them getting banned from all Trion games would be doing them a favor & not really a punishment.

“Goods for goods…”
Yeah, not hard to see where the disconnect is here nor why you were banned. And judging from the attitude and multiple excuse posts in the forums. It will probably happen again.

Midgetsnowman True, but online the culture definitely has changed in this regard. You have only to spend a few minutes in a general chat of any current MMO to see the enormous difference in people’s attitude compared to like, 10 years ago. In real life there may not be the clear generational difference that some people make it out to be, but online I think there is.

thain ThunderJackson Even though it doesn’t make what the players did any less stupid, you both may be right. Trion can get “butthurt”, that was made very clear in the drama around Apotheosys quitting Rift. I know, it’s a different game, but it’s all Trion… and I know some of their employees actually work / have worked on both Rift and ArcheAge.

McSleaz mmodubz Blackmailing is done when you say you will do something unless you receive some goods in return.  This is not what was done.  What I said was that I’d share the video with Trion in exchange for them socketing my pants.  This is providing goods for goods as opposed to “I’ll do this unless you do _____.”  Being that Trion wasn’t in our inside joke about my pants, and how they were impossible to socket, perhaps better things could’ve been said.  People on the inside who know that I’ve offered everything in the world to anyone who could socket my pants thought it was hilarious.

Regardless, though, we are all moving on.  The video is now public for anyone’s viewing.  I held off on showing the video to anyone but Trion and my guild leader until we were permanently banned.  I truly felt that we were going to be the first guild to kill the Leviathan, and wanted to save our video to be the one of when the fight went more mechanically sound.  Now to show exactly what went on, it’s available to the world.

I respect your opinion on the matter.  Regardless, though, it’s time for all of us involved in the case to just move on.  And we have.  :-)
