Watch a run-through of WoW: Legion’s Maw of Souls dungeon

When World of Warcraft: Legion arrives some time this summer, players will be able to jump into nine brand-new five-man dungeons. So what kind of mind-blowing instance design does Blizzard have in store for its fans? Well, how about a ride through Vyrkul hell on a ghost ship?

This is the premise of the new Maw of Souls dungeon, kind of like Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean ride with 100% more terror and boss fights. If you don’t mind getting spoiled, you can watch a full annotated run-through of the dungeon below in a little under 15 minutes. See you on the other side!

Oh look.  Another AoE speedfest of a dungeon.  Big surprise.

BrotherMaynard rottenrotny Agreed.
I often wonder how they go about bring back the fun they had during vanilla-wrath.
The ever increasing level cap, numbers, abandoned and dead zones.
Things have changed so much that it seemed WoW is doomed to never capture that magic again.

rottenrotny BrotherMaynard Yeah, to me TBC was also the stats sweet spot, even if the very first quest rewards did seem crazy good compared to old world stuff. How little did I know back then, lol. Now it’s like triple of what was one expansion ago… Soon we’ll move into the googol domain and we’ll be hitting mobs for little white googols, big white googols and 72p sized yellow googols. I can’t wait!

PizzaDoh DanielReasor I will have to agree. Having instances that *feel* different is a pretty important thing.

cromahr DanielReasor I was one of those who did not like how often Arthus himself appeared just to say “you deal with them” and leave.
Admittedly, I could see a potential tie in for Vyrkul to the Burning Legion. As they were such a big part of WotLK, they are tied to the Lich King (if they wanted to be or not)….and although Arthus is no longer the body inside the armor, the Burning Legion was not allied with the Lich King himself (unless they changed that as well since WC3). Maybe the Lich King decided to try to interfere with the Legion’s advance.

DanielReasor Was I vocal back then? No, but I did like the Vrykul, the feel and vibe of Howling Fjord etc. The story was interesting (the connection between Vrykul and humans), and I liked the feel and look of their towns and the whole area.
Was WOTLK really that devoted to Vrykul and Old Gods instead of Arthas? I remember so many people complaining that Arthas appeared to often while you were out questing. I never agreed there… I mean, it wasn’t too much. He had lured us to NR, he wanted to antagonize us, lure us into ICC and turn us into servants. It never bothered me he appeared so often, as he was involved in so many of the things happening in NR, it was his realm.
So was there not enough focus on Arthas when so many complained he appeared too often? And in the end, the big raid at the end was all about Arthas, while Ulduar was a wonderful raid, yet wasn’t given enough time for people to fully beat it before the next raid came in.
About Legion – I am sure Blizzard has some story-reason Vyrkul are involved. However, I am kinda amused by Legion, because it seems almost desperate… they throw in SO much stuff from all the previous xpacs… Vyrkul, I heard the LK will have at least a quick appearance, weapons like Ashbringer, the Legion, Emerald Dream, Neltharion, Old Gods, Alleria and Turalyon… it either looks like they wanna dish out a final expansion and ending a lot of open sub-stories, or try to get as many old players to return as possible by doing a “best of WOW”.
And is this the first dungeon they showed? I have seen a lot of “we run this and that instance from Legion”, like the one in that corrupted forest or emerald dream, the Valhalla one (which admittedly has Vrykul) etc.

Ceder PizzaDoh BrotherMaynard  Yes, I was quite disappointed with it. It happened at the end of Mists, but level 90, pre-WoD purples had double the stat points of the 90 blues.

Ceder PizzaDoh BrotherMaynard Yeah, and now, lvl 20 toons have 3k hp, and people are critting for 1kk dmg on 110.
My god. Squish it again please. Bring it to Wrath levels.

PizzaDoh BrotherMaynard  Actually the stat squish happened at the end of Mists around a month or so before WoD launch if Im not mistaken.

BrotherMaynard I’m not sure those numbers are legitimate. I was watching Towelliee stream this a few weeks ago and someone mentioned the same thing, and he said something about how at least one of the dungeons does some kind of heroic buff that adds to everyone’s hp and damage numbers. I don’t think current WoD numbers are anything near this, but I could be wrong.
