Check out a test drive of DayZ’s new rendering engine

You remember DayZ, don’t you? It’s not the only survival sandbox on the market any longer, but it’s still in early access and being refined over time. And its newest refinement should prove to be a treat for the eyes, as the game is testing a new rendering engine to make performance smoother and the landscape more attractive on a whole. Sure, the game’s central conceit is that “beautiful” is “not having a zombie gnaw on your throat,” but it’s the principle of the thing.

While the framerate does drop a bit in the video below due to the reality of recording footage, it’s a less severe drop than on the current live client. No word yet on when the new renderer will go live, but take a look at what it’s capable of and you may very well wish that the answer were “yesterday” — unless you’re a big fan of rain accidentally clipping through roofs, we all have our preferences.

Siphaed MorpayneRADIO Even then, the zombies are not a threat at all. They are just a minor annoyance which is what the OP is saying. If the zombies suck then it’s just becomes glorified deathmatch with zombies roaming in the middle

Did you watch the same video I did?  Those zombies were running fast and chasing as fast.  They’re super speed zombies, not Romero at all.

Bannex19 The problem is that making a game is easy in your head. But then you include the human element. So you have the creature which has broken everything it has ever found and cares nothing about your vision of the game, your words or logic, your life etc.

They are going to break that game for the lulz.

This game suffers from the same problem H1Z1 and other zombie games do, they use slow, Romero style zombies with AI so terrible other players quickly become the only real content, turning what should be a desperate environment where seeing another human being is a blessing into a Call of Duty gankbox.

This game still looks rough as hell.

meltedskul Greaterdivinity agemyth It made sense to get the Standalone version out quickly because the demand was there. Continuing to build upon the Arma2 base would have been hamperedbby even more technical issues.

Greaterdivinity agemyth But people do have a point that when the mod release have more features than the thing you spout as the definitive standalone version with crazy amount of hype pushed by the company. DayZ was released to Early Access one year WAY to early if anything two years tbh.
