Everything you need to know about The Division’s open beta test

Because we love you so, we want to remind you that it is Wednesday and that in just a couple of days, The Division will be kicking off its open beta test across all three of its platforms. Ubisoft is giving out an exclusive reward to anyone who logs in this weekend, so there’s a little added incentive to test this cover-based shooter out.

So what do you need to do to prepare? Everyone can go ahead and start preloading the game right now, unless you already had the closed beta client on your machine, in which case you’re all sorts of good.

Xbox One players get an early start to the test, as the doors will open for them tomorrow at 4:00 a.m. EST. PC and PlayStation 4 testers will have to wait until Friday the 19th at 4:00 a.m. EST to join in on the fun. The open beta weekend will then shut down on Sunday the 21st.

If you haven’t already, check out Massively OP’s hands-on experience with The Division’s closed beta for a good idea of what to expect!

Just the beta was really fun. Running in a full squad and shooting up other groups in crazy gun fights was pretty crazy. Glad I got the gold edition.

He probably just got shitted on every time he went into the DZ. me and my team were doing 5,400+ DPS. He’s just butt hurt. Haha

Denice J Cook What are you talking about?  You can go solo in DZ  and also has pvp components.  It is not all co-op.

Fun so far.  I feel like it is a better APB in some ways.  The looting and combat is decent with group combat.  The dark zone is decent for pvp but it needs some tweaks.  Overall its a bit early to tell since you are locked in a lot of stuff.

I tried to download the beta but nothing happens when you click on the download button. I think I might give this a miss for awhile if  they cant even get the downloading function to work.

The cover mechanics are pretty good. Exploration is rewarded. Almost too much to do intially,
overwhelming.
Not sure what I think yet.

Is this beta dumping you into the tutorial area first?  It seems like it can’t be, because you spawn as a level 4, but there’s so much UI all over the place I’m thinking that’s the case.  If that’s not the tutorial area you spawn in, then this game is going to be almost impossible to get immersed in because of its very overbearing HELLO!  THIS IS A GAME! interruption of a UI that harasses you to death every other step.

Press A to take cover against any one of nine thousands things around and B to leap over them– Jesus, I get it.  ;)  And the obnoxious yellow lines, numbers and icons darting across the screen are supposed to be the map stuff– I get that, too.  I just wish it would all go away for five seconds so I could feel like I’m actually getting drawn into the world, instead of it getting “drawn” all over my screen.  :P

Yeah, and no multiplayer beyond co-op….Thanks, but I’ll pass.

Cramit I’m playing both. Between the two clients and both me and my husband downloading, we’ve clocked 100 GB this week. Thank god for uncapped downloads.

I haven’t even looked at the forecast. Sad that I find this out from reading massively comments. Guess I’ll be taking the family for puttputt and gokarts
