So here’s a new one for the Make My MMO crowdfunding column: We have a game that’s actually vying for Patreon donations rather than campaigning on Kickstarter or Indiegogo. That game is Shadow’s Kiss, a vampire fantasy MMO. Developer Clockwork Throne says it’s using Patreon to fund production and reward backers.
Dragon of Legends has rejoined our list, having canceled its first Kickstarter and started over, asking for a much smaller amount (in fact, it’s already passed its base goal). Multiplayer sci-fi survival sandbox Planet Nomads finished its Kickstarter a winner too, pulling in almost $140,000. And while MOBA shooter Overpower didn’t quite make its funding goal on Kickstarter, its devs have announced it’ll head into early access on March 2nd.
This week, we also mused on Star Citizen’s success, had a look at Camelot Unchained’s new lighting system, and spoke to Crowfall’s devs about its world-building pipeline.
Read on for more on what’s up with MMO crowdfunding this week and the roundup of all the crowdfunded MMOs we’ve got our eye on!

I never liked the sparkly ones, but even as a kid, I always preferred the Werewolf, or the Mummy, to Drac and his pale pals.
That said, if you get a chance to see the restored version of Bela Lugosi’s Dracula on DVD (it’s the edition with the score by famous composer, Philip Glass) you might want to take it. I thought that version of the classic film was pretty cool.
Cheers,
Planet Nomads looks identical to No Man’s Sky. That’s not necessarily a bad thing but I’d be concerned that it was a cash grab. I did a search through the Kick Starter comments and a lot of the backers commented on it, but the identical appearance of the landscapes wasn’t explained by the devs.
Shadow’s Kiss reminds me of that vamp mmo that didn’t make it a couple of months ago.
Im tired of those kinds of vampires but then again i cant say i ever liked them. The darker dracula/strahd kind that don’t sparkle in the sun and aren’t comedy relief like the buffy versions ill always be a fan of.
Shienne But Kickstarter was intended to boil down to “who wants to play my idea.” :D The ones that do well are usually either ultra-corporate or “who wants to play this already mostly playable game that I’ve spent two years working on for free already.”
I thought Jill Valentine’s whole thing was zombie killing, not vampire things.
All power to those who are looking forward to Shadow’s Kiss, but I confess, I’m still pretty much “vampired out” when it comes to my entertainment. I think the popularity of Twilight put the nail in the coffin (or the stake through the heart?) for me.

Which game hurt you?

Kickstarter is like that, sure. However games on Steam Early Access are not like that and have actual structure to their ‘idea’.
