Black Desert plans special events for the game’s launch

The final beta test for Black Desert recedes into the horizon, but that’s all right; there are only a few more days before the title launches for real on March 3rd. But wouldn’t you like a chance to celebrate once the game does launch? Aside from just celebrating insofar as you can play the full game, that is. The important point is that you’ll have some special competitions to take part in amidst all of the usual launch-day fun, with three separate contests running from launch day through March 22nd.

Players are asked to take a selfie riding any sort of mount, take a shot with guildmates, and upload an original music video with the game’s background music. The former two competitions will award in-game items, while the latter gives the participants a chance to win a Black Desert t-shirt in the real world. If you’re not really the pictures sort (moving or otherwise) you might want to just take a look at new information from the developers regarding future updates and localizing existing patches. You can also take a look at the no-longer updating pre-order counter topic if you want to see how many other people can’t wait to get into the game; the topic’s updates have ceased due to the game’s store tracking orders in such a way that accurate figures are no longer possible.

Xijit It has to be exactly like WOW but it also has to be completely different! Anything is is a total failure!

dragonherderx cheesybites76 Does putting it on an SSD really reduce the pop-in that much?

rogerstim37 And I believe many of those comments come from people who haven’t even played BDO, so that should tell you quite a bit.

melissaheather Honestly, I wish it didn’t bother me so much, but I pay a lot of attention to detail in these games, so I’m having a lot of trouble getting past it. I’ve found a lot of posts/blogs in which people say stuff like “the pop-in is just part of the game” or “I’ve just gotten used to it”, but those just seem like weak excuses to me. For a game that is so graphically intensive and pretty, the presence this sort of thing just doesn’t make a lot of sense to me.
Hey look if you can enjoy the game as-is, then I wish you the best with it. It’s just so distracting to me that it subtracts heavily from my fun. Like I said, I wish I could just get over it, but it appears as if this problem has existed for a long while now, so I’m kinda thinking it’s not going to go away any time soon.

dragonherderx I’d like to be able to do that, but gots no SSD at the present. It is something I am considering for the future, but for the past year or so I have done more gaming on XB1 than on PC, so just really can’t justify spending the money, at least not yet.
And I do appreciate the fact that there are no loading screens in BDO and that the world is as seamless as I’ve ever seen, but the close-range pop-in is just too distracting for me. Sure, derendering things when out of view is fine, but what bugs me is running through a field and watching the patches of grass, bushes, trees, etc. change shape while I approach them. Just never experienced this, at least not at this level, in any other MMO.
I was worried that it was my PC at first, but there are lots of reports of this on the forums, Reddit, what have you. It seems to cross all hardware boundaries, from what I have seen. It’s disappointing more than anything else, IMO. I pay a lot of attention to the details in these games and this is just really killing my immersion.
