Daybreak walks a fine line with EverQuest II’s TLE server

A developer update on the status and future of EverQuest II’s time-locked expansion server illuminates some of the difficulties that the team is facing when trying to balance measured progression.

“The honest answer is we are in a very precarious spot,” Daybreak admitted when asked about raid rewards. “The progression of loot on TLE is simply at risk if we keep increasing loot before Kunark. It will cause a chain reaction where if we continue along this path, Velious and expansions after it will have almost no progression.”

Daybreak said it’s going to do its best to keep itemization in check as well as to constantly monitor and adjust combat balance. The studio is also deep into work on the Echoes of Faydwer beta, saying that it and other free content should be available very soon.

Yes and EQ2 as well.
EQ2 released Rise of Kunark, and Destiny of Velious. The Velious one was a mess, you know the regular drama with SOE/Daybreak.

Rise of Kunark was to me the last great expansion or solid one, when the Shadow Odyssey released its when the game felt like it was falling apart and the wow’ification started, and pretty much was it for me and EQ2.
Another expansion came and went then the news that Velious was the next one, OMG i’m in, only to find the regular SOE BS and it was going to be released in parts separate release dates, and it was still being wow’ified.

Aren’t Velious and Kunark original EQ expansions, not EQ2?  /puzzled

Daybreak is sitting on the largest repository of rich lore, deep detailed quality quests, and this is how they spend their resources, updating quality content on a ancient engine running antiquated textures and code.

Here, let me lay out your new business plan for success.
Continue to “run” EQ and EQ2 for 5 more years, all the while releasing a new game code named EQ3.
Use the Unreal Engine, ftp model, and start small (release the same content and zones as EQ2 at launch) and use the EQ2 timeline as your overall guide, please feel free to pull any and all content from EQ and EQ2, over the last 10-15 years 98% of the mmorpg gamer’s haven’t played your game so it will be “brand new” to them, the rest of us will revel in awe of the new updated nostalgia.

chernabog NobleNerd Daybreak have communicated with their players. That alone makes it newsworthy.

NobleNerd It is to the people who are playing the game and wondering WTF is taking Daybreak so long to respond/fix things.   I don’t give a rat’s ass about 75% of the titles written about on here.   But I also don’t complain because I am not personally interested, I just read another article.
