Marvel at The Division’s PC visual tech at work

One element that’s attracted some to The Division is its level of attention to detail and its visual mastery that’s making this post-apocalyptic New York City a fascinating place to explore.

In a new trailer, The Division Technical Director Anders Holmquist shows off some of the techniques and technology that’s gone into making the PC version sparkle, shine, and grime. These include scary-sounding acronyms like PCSS (I had a case of that, once) and are shown with before and after wipes so that fans can appreciate the improvements that these make.

We’ve got the video for you to watch after the jump!

ZenJitzu deekay_zero Cyclone Jack the graphics downgrades if any from teh e3 2013 trailer (and not subsequent trailers) that the meme is about are so utterly marginal as to make the QQ about it a complete joke.

it’s mountains out of molehills basically.

deekay_zero Cyclone Jack I think I saw a mention somewhere of a dev saying that they downgraded (not exact wording here) the PC version to achieve ‘parity’ with the consoles. That made more sense to me.
On the flipside, I don’t have 4 monster cards SLIed to each other and they certainly don’t tell us the system specs they’re running those video feeds off of. Either way, graphics were good enough even if they weren’t what was promised (go Marketing!), so I’m in.

deekay_zero Siphaed they could have utilized some smart procedural tech along with RNG based looting like Dying Light just to give the scavengers something to do while doing so efficiently and within budget.  I think it could have been done if it had been a focus, and I would have preferred to see it.  The freedom to explore or not inside every building would have been a HUGE bonus and I hope it’s something they can do in the future.

Shermanx Al least they aren’t working with AMD. Nothing comes good out from them.

They have to add more pvp mode to keep player engaging. level of attention ain’t going to cut.

Siphaed 1 out of 10 in a new york setting honestly sounds like a tremendous amount.

deekay_zero Cyclone Jack I get the feeling that they’ll be unloading a lot more information about The Division’s future and stuff once the game actually launches.  Like even in the beta they held back a truckton of stuff and it was essentially a 2 hour demo before hopping into the Dark Zone.

deekay_zero Smiggins At least from the beta too, the instanced co-op missions akin to dungeon runs are pretty dang fun and on Hard mode are actually quite challenging and fun.   Really looking forward to seeing more of that.  Also supposedly they’ve intentionally kept quiet about some other endgame content that won’t be revealed ’til launch or closer to it.  So hopefully there’s more PvE stuff.
