Chronicles of Elyria eyes May for its Kickstarter campaign, posts new footage

While it once started as a very small and inexpensive indie project, Chronicles of Elyria has grown over the past two years to the size that it needs a sizable budget to help push development forward. Hence, the team announced today that it will be launching its Kickstarter campaign on May 3rd with an initial goal of raising $900,000.

That might seem like a lot for an indie MMO, but the devs say it’s worth it: “Chronicles of Elyria is unquestionably one of the most pivotal games of the decade. It’s a game which encourages massive player collaboration through new game mechanics such as contracts and an evolving story line. It encourages meaningful player decisions through a risk-reward system that truly forces players to make those tough decisions. It connects players to their characters in a way no MMO ever has, by bringing the human condition into the game.”

You can check out a first look at Chronicles of Elyria after the break and check out the series of dev blogs from the game that we ran last year.

Perfect Hero I don’ t particularly care for the game but I’m personally tired of Asian grinders with lots of eye candy.

Narendur1 IN-house musical talent is always a bonus for me because a great soundtrack is always a good indicator of how much they care about their own game  – well done  and good luck  guys, I’ll follow you with interest  and keep up the good work :)

At first I was going to poke fun of them for showing off an Unreal engine demo, but I always grouse about KS’s with nothing to show. So instead, good on them for at least having something concrete to sell people on. Unfortunately, I don’t want to play a game where my character dies. 2real4me

I mean, actual answers. Not with marketing terms like the rest of the campaign.
What is story driven? Is this TSW? SWTOR? Is there voice acting? Player created?
What is event based? GW2? Warhammer? Seasonal?
What is “resource management game with players as units”?

I like what they propose. But I have no idea on what it will be. Show gameplay. Not marketing.”New era of MMORPG” and all, that’s neamingless for players.

Perfect Hero As Archebius pointed out, they’re going for better mechanics and game play over graphical flash. If your game is pretty to look at that’s one thing, but it won’t hold most. They’ll simply wander off to the new distracting shiny. Good/great mechanics are what really should drive an mmorpg and should keep players playing longer.
