Elder Scrolls Online’s Maw of Lorkhaj trial will have a puggable normal mode

The latest Elder Scrolls Online Thieves Guild DLC dev diary is aimed at dungeoneers seeking to take on Maw of Lorkjah, the upcoming 12-man trial. ZeniMax says it pulled the idea for the corrupted-Khajiit-infested raid straight out of Elder Scrolls lore and that its goal was to make this dungeon accessible to as many players as possible without compromising endgame difficulty.

“We realize that all the hard work that goes into creating a Trial is wasted if only a small portion of the community is able to experience it. Our answer to that problem was to give Maw of Lorkhaj a Normal mode. We’ve had Normal modes for dungeons in ESO for some time now, but Maw of Lorkhaj is our first Trial to have a Normal and Veteran mode and level-scaling based on the group leader. These two systems effectively allow players of any level and skill to experience the Trial, and get rewarding loot appropriate to their level. We’ve tuned the Normal mode Maw of Lorkhaj encounters in such a way that it should be possible to complete them with a pick-up group—and you can do so at any level thanks to level scaling. It’s similar in difficulty to Normal-mode Maelstrom Arena.”

The hardcore veteran mode will “[provide] some of [the game’s] most challenging group content,” the studio says. To that end, the Soul Reservoir system is being replaced with a new Vitality system, ensuring that death has an impact.

When they say that’s not what they’re all about, that’s what they’re usually all about.

Yeah pretty much. In SWTOR, they’re all playing Sith edgelords with full Dark Side corruption effects toggled on, cyber-sexing in each other’s strongholds pretending it’s RP.

And why is it that dark elf vampire is so erotically popular?
Is it the fact that most erpers are emo introverts?

I doubt they’re going to remove levels altogether. It would end up being too much work for very little return. If anything, they’ll just add level scaling to every zone like in GW2, but they said even that is on the back burner as far as the old zones go.

Which would be great. Then they should remove classes. I know I know it’s an unpopular opinion but the illusion of freedom in a skill unlocking game would really move this thing into some pretty cool uncharted territory.
No classes would mean less demand for balance and let the people put what they want in their hotbars.

The cool part about this is, that it really does let you build your character more how you want.  (Even allowing those who dislike the animation cancelling to be effective.)
Veteran Malestrom requires you to build with specific things in mind.  Normal can be done fairly well by most people.  Assuming they actually manage to have the difficulties at about that level, they are opening up the content for most people while still allowing those who want it to have a bit more of a challenge.
That’s how to do it with a game that is based around designed content like this, imo.

It’s less racist and more of an observation of the game’s RP community. Lots of dark elf vampire ERP going on.
