Landmark is giving new players a slice of pioneer territory

Being flat and featureless isn’t always a bad thing. For example, if you’re looking to build amazing structures without a lot of hassle from a lumpy and uncooperative environment, finding a large level surface can be an immense blessing.

Landmark is preparing such places with its next update. The team reported that it’s going to add “pioneer landscapes” to the game that will be ideal for building right from the get-go. This new terrain type will also be allocated automatically to new players, ensuring them a claim spot without the land rush that has been typical in the game.

Other changes coming with the patch include increasing and standardizing the size of claims, making underground spaces easier to navigate, and randomized chaos caverns. The team said that this will be a big update with even more features to be announced, and that the patch will not be coming in the first half of March.

Matso paragonlostinspace They removed EQ from the title and marketing quite a while ago mate… it has been just Landmark for a long while.
Seriously though landmark as the first alpha released was simple enough and fun enough to be built upon…. then they tried to appeal to MMO loot curves and progression while locking characters out of building options… WTF
I wanted EQN more than landmark, but I was happy with the concept of landmark being a functional test bed of features while they worked on EQN to see what worked and what didn’t… Never became that, what the hell were they thinking.

krieglich I don’t disagree, but MOP is doing their job by covering this. Really can’t hold that against them.

Why in gods name….

WHEN we see anything if EQ”next” its always the gawdamn landmark bs. when…are…these…morons…going..to…do… work…on the actual everquest.

This landmark thing was supposed to be additional to the main game right !? Or did the actual EQnext got canned and it is now only about this minecraft sanbox bs?

Well, at least this proves that the team isn’t, like, dead, in which case I have to assume that they actually ARE working on EQN mostly and adding this stuff as a side project to try and keep people interested.

Stalvos Silentcrypt Yeah, that’s what I thought.  It’s been so long since I’ve heard mention of Next, but when I saw this article I was like “Wait, wasn’t Landmark and Next like a hand in hand kind of deal?”  I’ve been playing Fallout 4 and Black Desert, so this wasn’t like a whining post but a serious question about Landmark and Next.  What little bit I saw of Next seemed really neat though.

Janio2 No upkeep anymore. I just got back into the game after playing early closed beta, and now as long as you log in once per 17 days, your claim is “kept up”.

I’m as disappointed as anyone about the lack of updates for EQ Next, but Landmark is a much better game than it was when I played before. I doubt it keeps my attention too long, but I’ve been having fun with it lately, and that’s new.

It is pretty sparse, though. Plenty of land to go around, these days.
