Star Wars: The Old Republic’s latest Knights of the Fallen Empire chapter, Disavowed, went live for regular players this week, and now BioWare has released a new trailer featuring Creative Lead Charles Boyd explaining the storyline and narrative setup of the chapter. “It’s gonna be a dangerous mission,” he says, “so good luck out there.” We’ve included the video and new screenies below.

Will this be another 5min of story with 55min of horrid filler combat? Cause that’s what the last chapter was… and it took you 4 months to put that out.

I wouldn’t mind that the chapters have been getting shorter each time if I actually had something else to do between chapter releases other than grind the same frickin’ Flashpoints day and night, day in and day out.

I realize games use repeat/grind to occupy players between content drops, but most of the games I can think of have at least a few different things you can do as grind every day.
With Knights of the Fallen Empire, you can grind Flashpoints and Operations, or grind Flashpoints and Operations, or grind Flashpoints and Operations …

There isn’t even a level 65 “daily mission zone” to bang around in — I’m literally too bored to play SWTOR these days, and I enjoy the game, and normally want to play it regularly …

Disappointing,

Chuki792 I gave up. Finally broke my non-stop sub since launch. I’ll come back in a few months and knock the chapters out on a weekend.

I have to say, i don’t like this chapter… seems a little half arsed…
The chapters seem to be getting lighter/ shorter since the first few and I can’t really see what’s to keep people subbing each month. Maybe if they released two or more chapters a month?
Kaliyo’s content was short (but pretty sweet) but this one seemed to be over in a few minutes… and wasn’t even that good/exciting to boot. I think after 4+ unbroken years subbed to this game every month i’m starting to lose faith in the one thing that the game does better than any other. And I was more stoked about KOTFE than anyone i know… I still have hope but I don’t understand why they didn’t just release the whole lot of the chapters at once…

Actually, yes I do :-(

Just after Christmas/New Year, the server I play on (EU: Red Eclipse) was reporting it’s status as “Light” about ~22% to ~30% of each day according to TORStatus.net ( http://www.torstatus.net/the-red-eclipse/trends/60d ). The variation is the busiest periods (weekends) and quietest periods (midweek). During that time it was showing “Full” occasionally and “Heavy/Standard” the rest of the time. Red Eclipse is the busiest of the EU servers. The busiest few days were around the 19th to 28th of October when the server was showing “Full” approximately 15% of each day for 3 or 4 of those days (about 3.5 hours each day).
The last time the server showed as “Full” at all was around the 6th of January.
The last time the server showed as “Heavy” was around the 1st of February.
By early February, it was showing ~37% (weekends) to ~55% (weekdays) “Light” each day.
Either less people were playing or the same people were playing for short periods of time. Or a mix of the two.
Right now those numbers are showing ~41% (weekends) to 70% (weekdays) “Light” each day.
I understand that torstatus only grades the server populations in an imprecise way based on number of hours spent at each of the various possible statuses. I also understand that population caps were raised around the 29th of October last year. But unless Bioware are increasing the population caps daily by a small percentage, things are trending downwards.
The current “Light” state of ~41% to ~70% isn’t as bad as it seems, since it just means people are still playing – they’re just not playing midweek and are mainly on at the weekend. But it’ also means that the amount of time the server spends at “Standard” or higher at the busiest times has effectively dropped from around 19 hours at New Year to around 14 hours now. Obviously nobody can put a number on when “Light” becomes “Standard”, so it doesn’t depict numbers only trends.
The graph looks pretty awful for the last few days. But there have been two patch days already this week where nobody can log in.
By comparison, the next largest English language server (#3 in EU), The Progenitor currently shows “Light” for ~60% of time at weekends (and ~80% of the time midweek). That’s pretty bad.
Does that mean fewer subscribers? No clue. Probably.
Does that mean less cartel market sales? No Clue. Probably.
Are BW desperately trying to drum up interest? Oh yeah.
If you want to check out the TORStatus trend pages yourself… I’d suggest the most representative overview of population over time is the “population trends” page, set to show the “60 days” view. Then tick only the “Standard+” box.
Obviously “Number of hours with active players” isn’t the same as “Population”, but I think it’s fair to assume a drop in one means a drop in the other to anyone who’s not being overly pedantic.

One would think they were desperately trying to drum up interest or something. Have the numbers slipped after the initial surge of people who came back for KotFE (and Ep VII hype) or something? Not enough saps buying their half hour of linear content all of a sudden?

The trailer is better than the content.
