Check out nearly two hours of early gameplay from Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen

You can never do this ever, loser.

The footage you are going to see below is not the beta test for Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen. It’s not the alpha. It’s not the pre-alpha. It’s the pre-pre-alpha, and if you have strong opinions about test terminology in MMOs, that sentence alone might start an uncontrollable eye twitch. We apologize in advance. The important thing is that it’s gameplay footage, and a lot of it.

As this is very early on in the game’s testing, there’s a lot on display that likely will not be in the final game, and there are elements such as animations that are nowhere near finished. Still, gameplay footage of any sort is no doubt welcome for fans of the game. Check the full thing out just below.

The thing which inspires me about this game is the PVE versus the world not just NPC’s which is old hat. Assets and graphic mean shit to me fluff don’t make a game the community and game play do. I loved Vanguard and played it to death on a high end PC and whilst it had many issues the concept made it a great game. The diplomacy system in it has never been replicated yet and i missed that like mad it was amazing and very useful part of the game. I love the codex system they have created and the fact that depending where you are will affect your spells and class greatly…Bring it on I say man people are not seeing the whole picture if you didn’t watch it all and hell that’s not my problem, this is the EQI replacment for sure that I want to play with all my old EQI friends which played with me in the late 90’s.

The thing this game will do is build a decent community like we have on Project 99 as mentioned below personally I cannot wait and hope I’m around when it finally hits the screens. We need people with this kind of vision to give old school gamers our fix, the Wow syndrome is the worse thing which ruined the MMO market imo. Whilst it brought the masses to gaming it’s brought the less tolerant gamers with that too, the quick fix in games is what ruins it imo.

Lots of whining about graphics sucking and its EQ1 with fresh paint.  For starters it is pre-alpha.  But to be honest I really dont care, cleanup the char creater and im fine with the animation.  I have played perhaps every mainstream MMO to date.  The latest being Blackdesert.  Real flash, sexy animations.  A week later bored as hell, weak PVE as most mmo are now a days because they have become nothing more than a shallow single player game in a MMO world.  The thing is alot of MMO’s have tried to copy WoW success.  None have tried EQ’s.  So 20 yeas later Pantheon decides it will do what no other MMO’s have tried, mimic EQ and copy what most people enjoyed about that genre of MMO.  Pantheon is not for the WoW or Blackdesert fanboys, its being made for the orphaned MMO players that have to play on emulators such as Project99(which has the best gaming community)  to get thier MMO fix.

Just like they said in the video, the focus is on gameplay, independent classes and how they work together in a group.  No more charging a group of mobs and just mowing through them.  Animations and graphics(although should be improved by launch) will not be the reason the target audience will play this game.

You say EQ game mechanics were pretty awful, I say EQ game mechanics have yet to be beat.  FD pulling, Mezzing, Heals, Tanks, DPS/Support were amazing in a group enviroment where one bad pull could be a nasty corpse retrieval or a memorable fight.

I cant recall one person, a exciting in game memory , accomplishment or a holy shit moment in a MMO the last 10 years.
I just discovered Project 99 last year and had more late night, feel like crap in the morning moments in that game then any MMO I can recall in recent times.
If you want
Challenge
A class that is specialized not a all in one
Social enviroment that wont consist of “wow first mmo”  “alienware rules” ect ect
Death has meaning
Strategic grouping
No more running to npc ! to npc ?
Group up with friends and explore the world
Camping named mobs with loot drops
Strong PVE
Make some friends

Then sure welcome to 1999, when MMO was truly MMO.

The rest of you enjoy your pretty animations, you already have plenty of pretty mmo’s.

thatchefdude At a glance I didn’t notice that each race had its own lore page. Anyone skeptical about the races ought to read these. While some of them (like ogres for example) are basically straight up EQ-styled I was surprised by the twists and new things their writers have brought with them.

The classes, however, are a little concerning as they seem to be about 95% Everquest rehashes. If they’re going that route why no Necromancer? Merge Druid & Shaman and give us Necros! rabblerabblerabble

DugFromTheEarth Michael18 I did not mention organized groups of 40 people. All I said was that “massively” means more than “a couple of friends that I know”.

Sure, MMOs also allow you to play with a couple of friend you know, but if that’s all a game is offering, then it’s not an MMO.
