Daybreak is shutting down the EQ Worlds mobile app

Daybreak is shutting down its EverQuest franchise mobile app at the end of March.

“We will be closing the EverQuest Worlds mobile app at the end of this month. If you would like to play any of the current mini-games, finish up quest lines, and/or retrieve codes for rewards, you will need to do so on or before midnight (11:59PM PDT) on Thursday, March 31, 2016. The app will remain available in the App Store (iOS) and via Google Play (Android) until its sunset on March 31, 2016. We hope you enjoyed this app while it was available, and continue to use and enjoy the rewards you’ve redeemed in EverQuest, EverQuest II, and Landmark.”

That’s 3:59 a.m. EDT on Friday, April 1st, for those of you running in MOP time, but it’s sadly no April Fools’ Day joke.

The app had received new features last summer, including a new questline, minigame, and trivia game, each one granting in-MMO rewards for either EverQuest, Landmark, or EverQuest II. That was the last update to the app; recent reports on the Android store suggest it hasn’t functioned properly in many months.

Zulika_Mi_Nam  Good point. All the bad news at once, not the death of a thousand cuts.

* 2:59 a.m. EDT btw

At first glance, Everquest brand + mobile seemed like a way to leverage / monetize the brand. I guess not.

If anyone wants to play the original Planetside, now might be your last chance.

Par for the course with these types of acquisitions. Change leadership, reduce staff, strip/reduce costs then resell in a few years.
Works well enough in some industries (purchasing physical products that are needed) but I cringe when I think that Columbus Nova is effectively destroying Daybreak’s brand and customer goodwill.
On one hand I completely understand the seemingly callous business decisions here but piss of your customers and what do you have? It didn’t matter how much they ‘lean’ the business if consumers are leery/wary of purchasing in the future…

This seems like nothing more than a company ditching dead weight at the end of the year. EQN could have been considered a blow but killing this is just something that should have been done a while ago.
