Eternal Crusade preps infographic for its launch outlook

Behaviour Interactive says Warhammer 40K: Eternal Crusade is at a “critical juncture in [its] development,” and the only solution is… an infographic.

Senior Producer Nathan Richardsson explains that staff setbacks and technical uncertainties led his team to prep a “conservative” infographic detailing the game’s launch outlook. “We added to it only what we believed we could deliver with high certainty,” he writes.

“As with any online game, we will continue post-launch development for years. We find it a very strange practice that in a game designed to play with friends, you can pay for a DLC that denies them from playing with you. Add a few more of that type of DLC, and none of you could play together at all. That’s not how we roll. We don’t want to segment the player-base, so you will all get new content, updates and an expansion every 3 months, for free.”

Sorenthaz chriskovo DruFrat  I know weird its almost as if I expected them to actually do what they said they were gonna do and deliver a great warhammer mmofps weird that. You think with all the problems at Daybreak games they would have been able to hire the needed talent away from them.

All things told, I picked up this game yesterday and have quite enjoyed it so far.

chriskovo DruFrat Sorenthaz You really have 0 clue how game development works if you think they could’ve afforded to design a completely new engine from scratch for the sole purpose of doing what you specifically want the game to do.

DruFrat chriskovo Sorenthaz And that was another poor decision made by this company.   Unreal engine came later with no forethought to doing the original vision.   Its been one bad decision after another with this game.    They damn well should had their system in place for the mmofps before annoyucing it and taking money for 2 years before retracting everything!

No way. This game is more robust than Space Marine. I loved Space Marine but this is a much better game overall.

Have you actually played this game? I’m an original Founder. While the scope changed, it has not changed that drastically. Eternal Crusade is a very fun Warhammer game and the PvP is great.
I am also a backer of CU (high level) and a Sapphire Crowfall backer. I’m kind of perplexed as to why you wouldn’t like Eternal Crusade. The game plays very well, looks great. Is it because it’s not one, huge game universe? I wasn’t too happy when it was announced it wouldn’t be a huge warring universe but honestly after playing the game it’s a non factor. EC is very much Space Marine on steroids and so far I’ve had great fun with it. You might give it a go at launch. You may change your mind.

chriskovo Koshelkin I got the same feeling playing. I was playing chaos and they made it seem like I was a reskinned space marine in red/black armor…..not a blood thirsty power hungry traitor. The fighting in Space Marine felt pretty epic. The fighting in EC felt more like you’re a lumbering paper bag.

I didn’t play very long but I wasn’t super impressed. I hope it improves because as it is now, it’s got a long way to go.

The reason planetside 1 & 2 are more massive MMO fps because they were built on engines designed in house which as you can tell from a lack of competition that it is no easy feat.
40k EC is built on Unreal Engine 4 which is a professional engine but not made for MMO scale projects out of the box. Even as they customize the engine now it will likely take years before Unreal will have full support and documentation to make that an out of the box feature.

So the reason as you may have guessed by now for their lack of open world is because yes technically the technology is not really there or ubiquitous enough (IE cheap) to create competition to Planetside as far as a shooter of that scale in large maps.

They do think they can get their engine and servers up to 60-100 per map though depending on the maps objectives warranting that many players of course so they are at least attempting to push the envelope for all Unreal developers.

I backed this game early on based on misinformation. Back when melee combat was supposed to be more Dark Souls 2 then CoD knife attack. I hope the game succeeds but

chriskovo Koshelkin Not my opinion. Space Marine was a fairly limited game.
