The Stream Team: Beyond Black Desert’s Velia

29

MassivelyOP’s MJ is finally settling in to Black Desert — or so she thought. She’s set up some trade routes and has been hauling goods about the area, been harvesting and mining, and even bought a couple of houses where she brews up wine for the locals. Now the little smokey wisp wants her to venture off to a new area. Explore? You don’t have to ask MJ twice! Join us live at 8:00 p.m. as she sets out to see more of this vast world beyond Velia.

What: Black Desert
Who: MJ Guthrie
When: 8:00 p.m. EDT on Thursday, March 24th, 2016

Bannex19  “but this is definitely not a gorgeous game.”
i am sorry for you, but on the other hand i am glad that you are completely alone with that opinion. this is the most fucking awesome looking online game i ever played.

Lol don’t tell me that what I’m seeing isn’t true. Any significant Vista in the game is marred by what looks like 2d sprites with enough animation detail for an N64.
The game is getting praise for its gigantic amount of features but this is definitely not a gorgeous game.

Bannex19 I’m pretty sure that the game would not be receiving such great praise on it’s looks from the majority of players if everything beyond 20 feet from the player looked like crap. I have tried the game on a gtx745, a gtx960, and now a gtx970 and it’s always looked gorgeous. There is the texture “popping” issue while moving that most comment on however.

You must have some video options set wrongly.

arktourosx thickenergy I know it’s quite a ways off. Just feeling a little frustrated with games always putting what looks like completely awesome fun stuff at the end of a bunch of meh stuff.
I experimented with making a Berserker last night. There’s not a lot you can do to alter their appearance in the character creator. Worse than Wizards in that regard, in my opinion. But I did manage something less beady-eyed and gorilla-armed. May pull him out whenever I just want to run around in a murderous beast frenzy. Should get leveled in no time, considering how hard I’m having to try not to level on my witch. :P

melissaheather thickenergy Night before last there was a raging storm going on both in the game and in real life. Lightning, thunder, massive downpour, I couldn’t tell which sounds were from the game and which were from outside. The two sets of lightning flashes kept the room completely lit up.

So you and everybody else won’t be lagging out, even though there are thousands of players everywhere you go?  ;)
Massively multiplayer servers aren’t indestructible, you know.  Something’s gotta give somewhere.

I have to say I like this system just as it is.  I used to hunt reds in Lineage 2 all the time, because you don’t feel too badly killing a known griefer, and their drops were usually sensational.  They’d have tons of great health potions on them from one of their alts, because they couldn’t go back to town to trade of course, and their stuff was typically higher level than mine because griefers like to kill lowbies, not pick on others the same level as themselves.  Reds there could even drop the weapons and armor they were using on their characters!

Once Mediah and the desert areas for PKers are put in (on the forums it said this was happening in 10 days, for whatever that’s worth), the gankers will have somewhere to fight each other unobstructed, from what I gather.  However, gankers being gankers, they won’t like having to face only other reds instead of being able to prey upon hapless lowbie harvesters all day.  It’s like that in every open PvP game, but I digress.  ;)

Bannex19 In screenshot mode you can hit control+down arrow to sharpen the surroundings. I find that helps there at least.

thickenergy Seems like it rains every day that I’ve played, but seeing the rain drops hitting puddles on the ground, the thunder & lightning, and my avatar, horse, and kitty cat all soaking wet in the rain is pretty darn amazing.   This is truly a “just being there is fun” kind of game world.
