World of Warships deploys Russian cruisers in 0.5.4 update

World of Warships’ 0.5.4 update docked on the live servers this week, complete with nine new Russian cruisers sure to bring a smile to the faces of players in that chunk of the world. In addition to a number of bug fixes and test ships entering the game world, Wargaming has implemented a consumable Surveillance Radar system that “significantly increases the range of assured acquisition of enemy ships, including those within a smoke screen.” Radar works only on the best Russian cruisers for now; the studio says “US cruisers will receive this consumable in a future update.”

LordSolarMacharius wanderv15 Damonvile  Let me make it a third. You reap what you sow and whatever you think of WG and its sales, “People still play this game” is not designed to start a productive conversation. (I tend to respond to commenters like that not playing with “thank you.”)

Within the last week. devs said the concurrent players worldwide was 130,000.

wanderv15 LordSolarMacharius Damonvile They’ve been shafting the NA region by making premiums into bundles only since Murmanskgate. Other regions have gotten more ships sales and the ability to buy ships outside of bundles. I guess that’s our payback for making Wargaming not get away with altering their side of a sales agreement after the fact.

melissaheather ApathyCurve  Sure would have been nice to add RN sooner, but you can’t launch a game with 100% of the cool ships/skins/characters.

And they are making the ships their customers want to buy. I.e. they have a number of Polish players so they added a premium Polish destroyer. (The real-life destroyer of that name essentially saved a town during the war; cool story.)

h4  Radar is a new feature that is debuting with the Russian cruisers.  But they have already said USN is getting it in an upcoming patch.  The USN radar specs have already been published.

LordSolarMacharius Damonvile Breaking news: devs want money from players! HOW DARE THEY!!1111
I played without any problems not paying a cent. This game don’t have gold ammo but people still blame for money-grabbing.
Greedy kids are greedy.

ApathyCurve Except that this game is not WW2 sim.

And yes, how dare russians add to their game 2 lines of their ships after they’ve added 4 lines for Americans and Japanese. This clearly shows how jingoistic and crazy badass those russians are. Shame on us!

Awesome.  I love this game.  Outstanding graphics and gameplay. exhilarating to dart into torpedo range with your destroyer and (hopefully) unleash 4-6 torpedoes on a behemoth of iron and steel.   They do something like 6K damage each, so 3 or 4 hits can sink a big cruiser or carrier.   It is breathtaking to see one shudder or even break up as it sinks beneath the waves.
Carriers are fun because you can target their big ships all the way across the map and do a lot of damage with bombs and torpedoes, but God help you if the enemy sees you.  Cruisers and battleships have awe-inspiring cannons that just rain down a meteor shower of death on the enemy.   Incredible to see your shots landing and the ships catching on fire or taking heavy damage.
I do like this game a lot!

ApathyCurve you forgot to call them “commies” in a John Wayne accent.  it’s a Russian game, dude.  They are making the game they want to make, and it’s a lot of fun.

The influence of the nearly non-existent Russian Navy on the outcome of World War II can be described in a single word:  zero.  Yet WG are busily creating it as their next big tree and third major nation in Warships.  The Kriegsmarine “tree” is just a telephone pole and the Royal Navy — one of the three most powerful navies on the planet at the time — is nowhere to be seen.

Everything WG does is targeted at a hyper-jingoistic Russian audience who pine for the bad old days of the Soviet Union while enjoying the luxuries they would never have been allowed under the Soviets.  It’s really quite amusing if you look at it in the right light.
