Eternal Crusade expands battle maps to 64 players, introduces stronghold mode

To war! To victory! To patching!

The battle cry has gone out for Eternal Crusade founders, who can now download and try out the game’s fifteenth patch. There are two significant changes with this update: the addition of a stronghold game mode (featuring the Imperial Fortress Harkus) and the increase of map capacities to 64 players. The patch also throws in a couple of new weapons, a UI overhaul, and new voiceovers.

Stronghold mode will feature two sides, attackers and defenders. If attackers can take all of the capture points by the end of the timer, they win; otherwise the defenders emerge victorious. Defenders only have a limited number of lives to compensate for the advantage of hunkering down in a fortress.

The team warned players that the patch was put together quickly and is “rough around the edges,” so if you’re trying it out, expect some issues and frequent hotfixes.

All I get now is lag so bad that characters seem to teleport between spots, also crashing to the desktop in every match but one so far

Koshelkin  They have Bandai backing them now?  I haven’t been keeping up with this game, it sounds like maybe I should start again.

I’ve always thought it was interesting how their development plan was to start small and build up to larger features, while still being okay if they had to stay small. I think it would help the MMO genre a great deal if these guys can show this kind of plan works.   The MMO industry got severely slapped with all the million dollar disasters of the 20-aughts, so maybe this is a lesson to come out it.  Who knows, it might even allow real innovation to creep into MMO development.

agemyth I agree.  Different game modes will help to make the game more appealing and generate more interest.

I hope they can eventually reach their plan of using the Tyranids as a non-player faction to balance player factions in territory conflicts.

Siphaed Sounds like the matches have more players in them than World of Tanks/Warships/Warplanes and other games covered here at MassivelyOP.

Sure other games like PS2 can do bigger conflicts, but I think it’s refreshing to see a company start small with their new game and try to get it right rather than the tradition MMO developer practice of setting absurd, hype-ridden goals for their game and then going down in flaming failure.

agemyth Supposedly they are already working on it I think.  So we could see them in a few months.

Siphaed Sorenthaz Koshelkin Do you really pay attention at all to the development or are you just talking out of your ass about things as usual whenever you get on a super passionate tirade against something you’re not happy with?  Eldar were already shown on a livestream.  Orks and Eldar both will be coming out by launch.   Did you even see that infographic they posted with all of the features they plan to have at launch?  That’s not even a week old; it would be incredibly silly for them to suddenly go back on that not even a week later.

agemyth I think that’s still a ways out but it’s what I’m really looking forward to. The pvp part gets a little boring for me.

Koshelkin Siphaed  You must like getting lied to than. So far its just a crappy copy of Space Marine that cant even do massive battles like it was supposed to.  They should just shut it down and refund everyone’s money to them.
