Sadly, this one isn’t an April Fools’ Day joke, or if it’s a prank on the part of the perpetrators, it’s not a funny one.
Shroud of the Avatar’s Starr Long told players earlier today that the game has been struggling with a DDOS attack since early this morning.
“Unfortunately we are under a Denial of Service attack from at least one source (perhaps multiple) that started at 3:00 AM CDT. We are blocking them as quickly as we can. If you are getting ALTAIR9000 disconnect messages that is the cause. We apologize for the inconvenience and we are working hard to solve this issue as quickly as we can.”
This isn’t the first time the game’s been DDOSed on the eve of a major launch; almost a year ago, e-thugs decided to screw with the Release 17 launch. Release 28 began rolling out yesterday.
This kind of idiotic behaviour is basically external form of ganking and corpse camping.
JohnD212 I played tonight no issues.
I feel jipped. Was promised 29 sassy insults. :(
It’s a quality game and the community that plays it (I do) will understand. We as gamers should always back those who create the games we love and when they have trouble, the best we can do is be patient and show our support.
Damonvile Elirion Well you sure don’t want him watching porn in the living room, do you?
Rustybladez Armsbend Eh, I’m not a fan of the game at this point… but there are those who do enjoy it. So it does have at least some point, even if as a game it is by definition unnecessary.
Honestly, anyone could well say the same about any games you like (or any game.) Why would you go there? That’s as crude and scumbaggery as these DDoS attacks.
My response at this point is that I am so against the idiots that DDoS that I immediately lower my opinion of anyone doing it to the second lowest tier of the scum of humanity. The only thing I have to say to or about them is ‘Go away and leave the rest of us alone morons.’
Pashgan reuscherf I use Sucuri & Cloudflare, really depends on the strength of the attack.
reuscherf How could monitoring mitigate DDoS? Meawhile there is a great semi-free service for mitigation – CloudFlare. Probably MOP might want to use it as well.
