The Daily Grind: What is the single worst element of MMORPG endgame?

Cool times.

I have ranted at length about how much I dislike the concept of MMORPG endgame. I don’t like how it shapes eternal online games into being things that have ends, how it creates literal and figurative power disparities and forces developers into spending effort on content and player types that aren’t necessarily ideal for the game’s longevity.

But some people dislike endgame for much more specific reasons. Sometimes it’s an excessive emphasis on raid-or-die. Sometimes it’s stock PvP battlegrounds. Sometimes it’s economic inflation or the sudden uselessness of crafting. It could be a sudden lack of quest content or leveling impulse. Maybe it’s even something I tend to love, like alternate advancement. Or maybe it’s just knowing that everything you do in this endgame will be for nothing come the next level bump or expansion.

You tell me — what is the single worst element of MMORPG endgame?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
