ArcheAge players cry foul on a $100 in-game pool

Ironically, this is the sort of controversy you'd probably rather face from inside a hot tub.
It’s been a cold April in parts of the US, but ArcheAge is addressing that with the addition of a new hot tub house decoration. It allows up to four people to sit within it, it can remove the debuff for sleeping, and it comes along free with the purchase of a $100 credit pack to the extent that anything is “free” with a $100 entry charge. Also, you might want to re-examine that middle part there because the hot tub allows the house’s owner to remove the sleep debuff, meaning that you can sleep twice in a given day.

Since sleeping is the only way to gain Labor points, which are normally sharply limited, the hot tub goes from being a fun vanity item to being arguably pay-to-win based solely on endless free Labor point refreshes. Player uproar ensued.

Redditors confirmed that only the property owner can benefit from the debuff removal, meaning that there’s going to be a pretty significant difference between players who do and do not have the $100 worth of credits and this “freebie.”

teppic Serrenity  /eye-roll — it’s amazing how responding with anything other than torches and pitchforks means I’m somehow a white night.

Isn’t this the MMO that charges this kind of money for everything else in the game? just look back at the launch prices… so now we have never winter that mostly seems like they are selling ce versions of each expansion, arch age that every update is ce pricing for what? someone clearly wants it people bought the monocole… bdo that charges about forty dollars for a set of gear, I mixed and matched pieces and still and not sure if that means we don’t get cool looking loot, oh ya there is loot that looks cool too, swtor which most of the cool stuff is raid or boxes… so basically people decided to stop playing subs so dev’s are having to find things people will spend money on… the question is not if people will buy it but if they are making stuff you want to spend you money on…

How dare the devs attempt to monetize their MMO.

LordSolarMacharius Which is a shame. Trion was the one MMO company that I defended/supported for a long time. Defiance was my favorite MMO until they spent an entire year introducing monetized dungeon crawls that functioned so poorly that contacting customer service was almost a given at some point or another.

Not to mention, they only bother to add content to the game once a year these days.

Such greed, 100$ is so disgusting for an item like that. Any amount for that matter. I do have the feeling Trion will go bankrupt at some point soon. I also hope the CEO gets a taste of the poor life, good luck bastard!

BryanCo teppic A Dad Supreme I never get whether people are really naive enough to believe that a publisher has no control over the game they publish.

LordSolarMacharius I don’t get the ‘gets away with stupid crap like this’ — what does that even mean?  If you don’t agree with it, don’t buy it.  If you don’t buy, they won’t sell it.
Really, the outrage is getting old.  A developer can make a press releases without the foaming rabid community coming out of the woodwork claiming foul of some perceived slight against them.
That, and it’s vogue right now to assume that absolute worst about Trion (and really, any developer) in every possible situation.
It’s getting old.
