Nexon’s Riders of Icarus plans another round of closed beta

Snipe!

Announced back in January, Nexon’s Riders of Icarus was promoted as a free-to-play action adventure MMORPG with “exhilarating aerial combat.” The first beta took flight that same month; now, the company has announced that the second phase of its closed beta test will take place for a week beginning this Thursday. The event will include more players from around the globe:

“Ride with more players as we expand our beta test to include Europe, South America, Australia and the Oceania territories in Phase 2 of the Closed Beta test.”

Testers who hit the proper markers during the event will be rewarded with collectible in-game capes. Expect big changes to the mounts (as in, you’re getting them sooner because that’s pretty much why you’re playing the game) as well as adjustments to the interface, combat AI, and solo difficulty.

Xijit Thanks for the information, good to hear from someone that played the game and gives some details on how the game plays.

I wonder if this would scratch the aerial combat itch from CoH.  Probably not, and it is Nexon…

Very glad to hear they are handing out mounts earlier … That was the main issue with CBT1 and it made no sense because the way things were structured: you would finish the starter zone, then unlock the ability to tame mounts, then backtrack through the starter zone again to fill out the mount book on mob data.
Oh, and to be clear: this game has a fuck ton of mounts that you capture from mobs, and there are both land and aerial mounts … The rare ones also have you runing side missions involve crafting bait items & doing specific things while capturing them (like jumping off a cliff to land on a bear’s back or knocking a boss off his mount and then killing him to assert dominance over the mount).

It is firmly of the same “AION mechanics / Archeage art style” family of B-list games that have been trickling in of late, but the game play is solid and no major bugs … Just because it isn’t top of the line like BDO doesn’t mean it playable.
If BDO hadn’t swallowed my soul and pulled me back into playing an MMO as my main game; this game would have filled the “casual MMO” slot in my gaming mixtape.

I liked what I checked out.  Gameplay is decently fluid, and collecting mounts is a pretty alright feature.  Game is easy on the eyes too, and does not fall into the same pacing pitfalls I have seen other MMOs fall into.

Game already looks kinda dated when compared to the other recent mmos from Korea (blade and soul, black desert etc), but overall from the videos the gameplay look fairly polished.

Might actually give this one a shot.
