Want to play Riders of Icarus’ closed beta? Get a key from Nexon and MOP! [All gone now!]

Riders of Icarus is Nexon’s latest entry to the MMORPG market, and starting tonight it’s heading into its second closed beta phase (and yes, there is a wipe — this is a real test!). This phase of beta comes with a level cap of 25, a 10-man raid called Attaius Peaks in the Northwest Region of Sea of Hakanas, and daily log-in events. How would you like to give it a try?

Nexon’s granted us 1000 closed beta keys for our readers. Click the Mo button below (and prove you’re not a robot) to take home one of these keys!

No keys left! Sorry.

To redeem your key, you’ll need to download and install the Nexon Launcher and create a Nexon America Account. In the upper right-hand corner, click the down arrow next to your profile name, then click ACTIVATE PRODUCT to enter your key and click NEXT. Select Riders of Icarus from the games list and then click PLAY NOW to begin pre-downloading the game.

The keys will work only for players in the regions listed on the official site and only for the duration of this closed beta round:

As a reminder, all players outside of North American territories must use the Nexon America Launcher in order to download and play. Additionally, all players, including those with a Nexon Europe account need to create a Nexon America account for the specific purpose of participating in this test. This will not be a permanent condition to participate and will only apply to Phase 2 of the Closed Beta test.

Servers will be up beginning at 5 p.m. EDT on April 21st, but codes are applicable right now. This phase of the beta lasts a week and ends on April 28th. And apparently, this round of beta is under NDA:

Massively OP giveaway notes
‣ If there’s no captcha or Mo button and all it says is “No keys left! Sorry” in big letters, then we’re out of keys. If we get a refresh from the studio, we’ll send out a note on social media.
‣ Having problems with the captcha not working? Try an alt browser or clear your cache.
‣ Hang on to your code! If you lose it after all of our keys are given out, you’ll need to email us with your IP so that we can look it up for you that way. Please don’t ask us to email you a key if your browser didn’t actually display one for you or you can’t determine your IP!

Good luck and have fun!

Xijit I think Nexon just doesn’t want to show any lag or glitches happening during the beta more then anything.

Whats PvP like in this game?

Zooming all the way out and tilting the canera up high also helps; the game really is an old school tab-target / click to move game title, so a pulled back isometric angle helps.

Yeah, I saw a lot of potential for core mechanics ending up in the cash shop (key ingredients in high level crafting, slots in your mount book, some of the mount taming items) but who know how / if / when that will happen.
…. Nothing can be as bad as AA, right?
Turning your mounts into pets also makes them battle pets that buff and attack, so they are not just vanity (but they are kunda weak).
I found a turtle mount farther into the game that, while being kinda worthless, made me giggle and squee like a little girl from how it would flop on its belly and slide when you wanted to fast turn. So not everything is just horses and stuff.
Also keep your eyes peeled towards the end of the starter zone for a couple boss grade mounts that take some extra tactics to tame.

Xijit Just level 4(almost 5) haha, so I know that’s a little early to judge.

So far, I like the combat. It’s fun to me, but I can see folks criticizing the old-style(slower)tab target combat. It does auto target on the enemy in front of you, so that’s nice.  I like the combat animations; it sort of has a Tera/Blade ‘n Soul look to it
I had to make some adjustments to the mouse sensitivity and the motion blur. I like the interface and it seemed easy to adjust as needed.

The world has a wide-open feel to it, but at this level it’s linear quest to quest progression. Maybe, things branch out more at higher levels?
The idea of taming your own mounts in the wild sounds fun to me(I tamed one horse, so far, for a tutorial quest). You can also turn them into vanity pets with some crafting item, I guess? That’s cool. I like that the game seems more PvE focused, which is more my style. I guess there’s some optional PvP, but not sure on that.

One concern would be what kind of potential “p2w” items would be in the cash shop at launch. I don’t mind spending some money, if I enjoy a game, and convenience items are fine, but I guess some folks have warned about Nexon??
