Leaderboard: Will you be giving Guild Wars 2 another chance?

Both hands!

This week’s Guild Wars 2 update has been widely welcomed by both current and past players for its broad-sweeping quality-of-life adjustments (and rollbacks) for content introduced with Heart of Thorns (and we’re thinking the freebie level 80 booster, dungeon love, and WvW efforts probably aren’t hurting either). Guild Wars 2 article comments had been depressing reads since the expansion launched, but Tina’s column on the patch saw people coming out of the woodwork to say they were giving it a try or — in what is surely music to ArenaNet’s ears — picking up the expansion after all.

But was it enough, and are you one of them? Will you be giving Guild Wars 2 another chance? Let’s dance it out in the polls.

Are you playing Guild Wars 2 and why? (Choose up to three responses.)

Ravenzfire Krenian kgptzac See, I can appreciate that as that was a very well articulated point of view in regards to the battle system and how it’s simplistic for the reason you mentioned.

While movement is imperative in any games (Let’s not forget that most games have AoE zones to get the heck out of!), I think some games answer that by simply not expecting you to actually do damage when moving out. I know for a fact, my Monk on FFXIV, once they move out of the way, kinda have no AoE damage so I have to use an attack to eliminate my stacks of speed enhancing attacks and start charging another skill for when I go in.
It’s all in the context of how exactly a game manages that situation. I guess I just prefer that way.

My position remains the same; the day I can play City of Heroes again, I will buy into this game and give it a good, solid chance.

Krenian kgptzac I think part of the decision choice to go with the smaller skill set and make them tied to what weapon you were using was so they could focus the player more on movement.  Movement is key to doing well in guild wars and it’s stuff to manage 30+ skills while doing that.

It does seem a bit more boring if you are a caster class as they can sit in the back easier and don’t have to move as much but for any kind of melee class you really need to be constantly moving and dodging as it’s a key component of your defense.  I find I have much more fun playing as classes that make me move to survive then the ones where I can kind of stand in the back.

If ArenaNet ever has a big sale on their expansion, I might pick it up and give it a whirl, again. Until then, not worth my time.

kgptzac Krenian Oh, it definitely is a flavor thing! I just feel extremely limited in the choice and feel like I’m mashing the same couple of buttons over and over and it just makes for a really dull battle. Also, the story never gripped me that well. It was just a lot of things together that made me not enjoy the game as much.

Either way, glad you are enjoying the combat!

While this patch did pique my intrest it’s not enough to bring me back. Even if it was enough to get me to log in again I still see no reason for me to buy HOT.
Besides GW2 development path is like chasing a butterfly, it just goes everywhere. Maybe I’d give them more thought if they actually stuck with a plan for a change. GW2 is still my biggest MMO’S disappointment in the past decade

Krenian I know this may not be relevant in improving your perception or experience with this game… but the limited number of skills on the skill bar is a design choice. I personally prefer it over stuff like in Tera where on screen there are 3 skills bars each have 12 skills in each.

They still have a way to go, and a large price drop for the expansion, before they can lure me back in. It’s a start, but with things like raids now in the game, that’s something that changes the outlook of the community.

I will also say BDO has my interest right now, among other games.

Ya the whole “another dimension” thing is kind of strange to me.  It’s just so purposeless and disconnected from the main game, as if it was it’s own separate game.

I’ll just add to the people commenting Black Desert Online.

(though to be fair i still log into GW2 every day to stock up on Tomes of Free Levels, for if I ever start playing regularly again).
