Elder Scrolls Online’s Dark Brotherhood DLC lands on the PTS, opens Anvil, nukes veteran ranks

ZeniMax has set a rapid pace for fleshing out Elder Scrolls Online’s recently announced Dark Brotherhood DLC, which lands on the PTS today. The studio just released a patch overview with abbreviated patch notes; expect access to the assassin’s guild and questline itself, repeatable quests, kill missions, the Gold Coast area (woot for Kvatch and especially Anvil, the best city in Oblivion), new delves, new gear, a new crafting style, and even new music. The base game patch nukes veteran ranks (finally!) and adds poison-making, tweaks for the grouping tool, and a number of balance improvements for combat, vampires, and the Fighters Guild.

The DLC is free for those with active ESO subs. Free players can expect to pay 2000 crowns in the cash shop (or 4000 for the CE bundle, which comes with a mount, pet, and experience scrollies too). It formally launches for PC on May 31st.

NobleNerd alexjwillis DugFromTheEarth Oh they have a clue. But it would mean going deep into the very engine code and network protocol, and may well change the overall experience of the game for the worse.

petraeus1 DugFromTheEarth Thanks for the link, petraeus1.

Reading through the thread, what struck me as worrisome was the animation-canceling crowd crying about how this change nerfs THEIR game, and seeing Zeni actually responding to THOSE people as if their game (where animation canceling is the “default”) is the one that needs protecting.
Major red flag for a casual PvPer like me, to see a learned powergaming technique that is the only way to make PvP playable held up as the standard from which fixes will be implemented. That’s practically a death warrant for my interest.

breetoplay sfrees80 Anvil was definitely the coolest vanilla city. Cheydinhal in vanilla wasn’t that great, but IIRC the Better Cities version added a ton of cool gardens and stuff. It’s been a while, though, so that might have been a different town.

sfrees80 tobascodagama I loved Leyawiin and Cheydinhal too. And Skingrad! But I’m remembering them from playing so many years with multiple layered “better cities” type patches, so vanilla, they were probably less cool. :D

alexjwillis DugFromTheEarth This is not entirely accurate.

Yes, animation canceling is a thing and won’t be removed, but they are working on animation prioritization to make all skills fired visible to players. This was intended to go in with Thieves Guild, but due to feedback has been postponed. It’s partly going to be implemented with Dark Brotherhood (it’s in the PTS patch notes). Macros are not approved.

To read more on it, I refer to this old feedback tread of the previous PTS period, where the concept is explained and people muse on it/provide feedback: http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/245038/official-feedback-thread-for-prioritization-of-combat-animations/p1

Man yall made this shit sound fun almost lolol
There isn’t really anything new is just more grind which I don’t mind I enjoy but there isn’t anything else to do. And there is no reason to grind. The gear upgrades are minimal no long term set to grind for. No house to buy or build. Crafting is cool but very very vanilla. Fishing is what? for roe? Oh and a shit green colored dye ooh oooh lol.
I played this game for quite a while but the honeymoon has came and gone and were separated! If I don’t get a house soon the divorce well be finalized lol
