Take a look inside Paragon’s $59.99 Essentials Edition

Paragon’s insane take on the MOBA field is set to go wide when the game hits open beta this summer. The specific date for that release looks to be June 7th, as Epic Games has pinpointed that day for the sale of Paragon’s Essentials Edition.

The Essentials Edition includes a bundle of goods to help get you off to a running start. These include beta access, five skins, master hero challenges, several heroes, rep boosts, and a chunk of in-game currency. “If you play a lot of Paragon, the 6,000 Paragon Coins is worth it by itself,” claims the PlayStation blog. “The whole Essentials Edition is more than $160 in value (based on in-game currency) for only $59.99 ($79.99 Canadian).”

But why read about it when you can see it in action? Paragon has released a short trailer for the Essentials Edition to show off the spiffy-looking skins, so check it out below.

DPandaren Siphaed Sorenthaz Yeah, Junkrat reminds me heavily of Ziggs from LoL due to the bouncy bombs + satchel charge.   Also the ultimate that is essentially a giant explosion.    The one scrap guy is very much like a gun-wielding Pudge from DotA 2 (and Stitches from HotS who was largely inspired by Pudge).  Reinhardt takes elements from Sion and Braum.   Could probably go through more of ’em but yeah, there are definitely MOBA inspirations in a lot of the hero abilities.

Siphaed Sorenthaz Overwatch has MOBA bits in there. You’re just not looking too hard. They’re just very light. They’re mostly in the way of class abilities.

Is this only coming out on the PS4? Sorry all, I have not been tracking this one lately.

Siphaed Sorenthaz I keep forgetting Battleborn is a thing even with the constant emails I get reminding me that it’s a thing that Gearbox is desperate to get people to play.
Then again I haven’t really had much of a good history with Gearbox.  Only game I really liked was Borderlands.  Everything else was too meh to bother touching or was Borderlands 2, which i played but got super bored with.

Siphaed Dyskord If that is the case, I stand corrected. This line…

“Although from my understanding watching Cynical Brit’s take on it, the itemization and stat collection in the game is abysmal.”

…makes it sound like you kinda just took his word for it. If it simply corroborates your experience and opinions, then by all means feel free to express your own opinion on the game.

Actually, I saw his opinion on the piece just 2 days ago. I formed my own disliking opinion of Paragon some many, many weeks ago.  I stand by my statement that it is a LoL/DOTA/Smite clone with fancy graphics and a convoluted stats system with a hefty price tag.

Siphaed Please take TB’s opinion on this with a grain of salt. Based on what he said in the piece I believe you are referencing, he either played a VERY early dev build, or spent a very short time with the EA build, because a lot of what he said there was either misinformation or flat out wrong.

Of course, his cronies were quick to jump in and decry the game as terrible without ever having personally touched it, based of the account of TB alone. This kind of conversation is harmful as a whole to the gaming industry, not to mention this game in particular, which is very clearly and admittedly EXTREMELY early in development.

That, and Battleborn is gaining much more attention than it with next week’s release. Overwatch is being compared to them all, although it has nearly no MOBA aspects to it like the other games do.

Actually, the $59.99 edition is worth $0 in value, because it is nothing more than a snazzy DOTA 2 or LoL with Unreal graphics behind it.  I guess it could be more accurately tied to relation to Smite.  Although from my understanding watching Cynical Brit’s take on it, the itemization and stat collection in the game is abysmal.

Battleborn has a much better MOBA style with it, from my personal opinion.  Player interact much more with the map and gear is bought after playing the game via the shard collection system. Overall it comes out to skill via the FPS shooter part of its hybrid makeup.
