Blade & Soul’s Shattered Empire is live today

16

Blade & Soul’s 2.1 update, Shattered Empire, has gone live today as planned. The patch introduces two new floors for Mushin’s Tower plus two dungeons (Sogun’s Lament and Cold Storage) and a 6v6 PvP mode called Whirlwind Valley.

But wait, there’s more! Also launching today is a spring experience boost event, a new daily challenge, and a number of item fixes. This, however, is the most important patch note:

Fixed an issue where the /dance emote was not working.

Go forth and dance.

Qarran boredinBC Awesome, thanks for the info.  I loved the combat in the game, the mechanics of fighting had a great feel to it.  I think it warrants a reinstall.

zyrusticae The Lyn already reminded me a bit of Kagamine Rin and Len, but that outfit really drives home the comparison in my mind, particularly the shorts (minus the odd cutout bit).

boredinBC I’m still really enjoying it although I’ve really scaled back my gotta get it all drive, enjoying alts and taking my time through the story much more and less concerned about getting all my gear in order by Friday.

I always see lots of players around, no shortage there and yes players not bots. lol

Qarran i hope corrects me if i’m wrong but gear progression to me is something you are always working on, specially later levels, as in don’t try and get it all by Friday, accept the fact it’s always something your striving for and or working on improving. Like quests in mmo’s, you’re always working on them.

Bottom line, still having a great time.

Sometimes the apocalyptic subtitles attached to MMORPGs make me smile. They’re so dramatic. “Shattered Empire!!!!!!!”.
Then again, Blade & Soul: Have Some Cookies probably wouldn’t sell worth a damn

In any event, enjoy your new content B&S fans. New content is almost always a welcome thing — cookies optional.

Cheers,

Qarran boredinBC  I just wanted to say as one fan of the game to another, I always appreciate the honesty in your posts Qarran.  Please keep that up, I think the community needs more of that.

6v6 is pretty fun, though the fact that stats are the same there as in the open world means that combat has a very similar dynamic to open world PvP (minus the option of using escape to run away). That means waaay more auto-evades and auto-blocks, and players in general can be very tough to kill (especially if, like me, you stack crit defense going in). Also, unlimited stamina! Pretty cool to be able to sprint infinitely.
It’s your standard 6v6 3-point capture node mode. From that perspective, it’s really quite basic. You can interrupt anyone attempting to capture a node by attacking them, but they can also put down defensive buffs to prevent damage while they’re doing so if they’re the right class. Assassins are especially annoying here as they can capture nodes while stealthed (yep, really). Since the entire team gets a MASSIVE 15-second attack power buff when a node is captured, it’s very important to figure out when to disengage to capture and when to get the enemy’s attention on you. There’s also a bridge between the two outer points that opens midway through the game, adding a little wrinkle to the layout.
I appreciate the daily challenge system, which is functionally equivalent to the daily roulettes in FFXIV, but with more variety thanks to being able to pull from every dungeon in the game and the reward being given at the completion of 4 dailies (hence, no monotonous running of the same 3 dungeons ad nauseum). I got 10g out of my reward chest – pretty sweet!
Cold Storage is a small boss fight that tests your team’s ability to coordinate. The whole dungeon depends on you being able to prevent machines that run around the map from ever touching the boss, which means whoever has aggro on the machines must be aware of the boss’s position at all times, and whoever has aggro from the boss must be cognizant of the machines as well. Failure to stop the machines makes the dungeon basically impossible to beat, as the boss’s defense continuously increases over the course of the fight.
I’ve never run Sojun’s Lament (and don’t have the stats to do so), nor have I had a chance to run floors 9-15 of Mushin Tower, so that will have to wait for another time. Still, prices are definitely going to drop over the course of the next few weeks, so now’s a good time to gather up gold to upgrade down the line. And with the XP boost, leveling up alts is easier than ever. You’ll probably even have to skip a bunch of dailies because you’ll be swimming in so much bonus XP.
Also, got this nifty outfit that I”ve been waiting for for quite some time. Despite the shorts being rather… questionable in their design, the whole thing just speaks to me. Fits me like a glove, you could say. I especially love the shading of the gold parts on the jacket. Mm-hmm. I am pleased.
