Eternal Crusade welcomes Unreal Engine 4.11 and shares mo-cap sessions

The next Eternal Crusade patch is preparing to change the game from the inside-out, as the title will upgrade to Unreal Engine 4.11. This should allow for much better performance of the gritty sci-fi title: “We’re hoping its massive focus on optimizations and performance done for their own game also benefits us greatly, so we expect great success.”

The incoming patch, which is coming in about a week, will also contain more defined rules for matchmaking, a new PvP map called Maggon, improvement to chat, and various bug fixes.

And because watching grown adults running around in skintight suits with balls attached is always a source of interest and amusement, we’ve got a pair of motion capture sessions for Eternal Crusade after the jump!

A good decade a go WH40K went to the ‘end’ of the 41st millennium in the 13th black crusade. The last moment is where Eldrad Ulthran is fighting a possessed Blackstone fortress to stop it blowing up Cadia’s star in the year 999999.M41 (if I’m getting my imperial date structure correct!)
It’s been a fantastic year for Warhammer computer based gaming, far better than the new age of Sigmar that just makes me sad after having played Warhammer for 20+ years :(.

DugFromTheEarth Janio2 I think originally the intention of an in-house engine was that they thought they could build an engine that would support 1000 player battles like they initially claimed they’d do.   Turns out that wasn’t feasible with what they had available to them.

Janio2 Koshelkin I’m too attached to 40k to really accept and move on if another armageddon strikes it… It’s also doing much better than Fantasy was so I hope it stays as it is.

Janio2 DugFromTheEarth Sometimes I fully support in house engines, but often, it can mean the engine not being up to par with what the industry standard is.

For example, the current game engine, the devs have stated that they will not add an FoV option to the game. They give reasons like “Breaks gameplay”, but thats just smoke and mirrors imo for “its not something we can easily do in our engine”. Giving a game limited FoV options has never broken the gameplay in ANY game. It sounds better than admitting that your own custom engine was designed with roadblocks preventing you from making changes like that without a complete rewrite of much of the code.

I fully support Unreal Engine 4, and am much more likely to buy this game now because of it.

Janio2 Koshelkin I sincerly miss the old WHF universe, so yeah, I kinda share your sentiment. Thematically the old universe was closer to WH40k, even though the new “Stormcast Eternals” are like Space Marines in alot of ways. The novel series of the new universe is slowly getting better, though. Let’s see what they make out of it in the long run. It went alot into the Epic Fantasy direction leaving the old gothic universe behind.

In regards to the WH40k they far from stopping churning out new novels and minis. Worldchanging for the actual 40k aren’t foreseeable. They just released a new event line “The Beast arises” which is set after the Horus Heresy anno 32k and the Horus Heresy is still moving on with a new novel release recently, The Path of Heaven by Chris Wraight.
