TERA and Hello Kitty make a purrrfect couple

File this one under “what the heck”: TERA is running a promotion for Hello Kitty items. In TERA. If you had any immersions left in your MMORPGs, consider them well and truly broken now.

From now until May 19th, TERA players will be able to purchase Hello Kitty loot boxes from the official En Masse cash shop that randomly contain Hello Kitty outfits, accessories, uniforms, and miscellaneous consolation prizes like consumables.

“Stay tuned for the release of Hello Kitty mounts and pets next week,” En Masse warns.

It must say something about Tera that when I saw the title, I was not surprised at all that this was a thing. My initial thought was of course that’s true.

The thing that’s even more odd is that if these were “Pay to Win Cash Shop Power Items” these same people would still be complaining.  ;)
Devs gotta eat!  F2P here, kiddies!

I’ve played TERA off-and-on throughout. I’ve found it good fun occasionally. I feel like the game kind of busted through the “fourth wall” in terms of a fantasy setting long ago, so this doesn’t seem at all inappropriate. Quite the contrary, actually, as embracing this sort of thing separates it somewhat from so many more titles vying for gamer dollars. I equate this to some degree with what the movie Deadpool accomplished with such a metafictional technique. Whether TERA has any success with it remains to be seen, but seeing Hello Kitty-themed items is not going to break immersion any more than so many other mounts/accessories/etc has already.

Why the hell not?

That’s a good question. The swastika long existed before its infamous rebranding.

Armsbend Vexia ManastuUtakata Rozyn Do you mean manji, a.k.a. swastika which is a historically Buddhist symbol (https://www.tofugu.com/japan/japanese-swastika/) or something else?
(And since text = no tone, I’m genuinely curious, not trying to be snarky about my question)

I wish Archeage would get content from other regions like this.

Vexia ManastuUtakata Rozyn JP games used to be littered with Nazi references.  Asians still have a Nazi fetish.  They did have the best uniforms over the past century and a half.

Like with everything else they green light for their cash shop. You can almost hear EM/BH’s motto, “Keep it crassy not classy!” /sigh
