Crowfall’s castle siege video is appropriately brutal

Nice shot.

Crowfall’s latest Siege Perilous footage is brief, but it digs into the flashier parts of castle sieges, with catapults loosing their missiles, explosions knocking people off walls (and those walls crumbling to the ground), and foot soldiers and horsemen breaching the gates.

Just keep in mind, it’s still deep in alpha. “In Pre-Alpha 2.0: Siege Perilous, participants split off as soldiers supporting Chaos or Order, either laying siege to or defending a castle,” the studio’s press release reads. “The castle destruction system allows players to tear down walls and topple towers with real-time server side physics.” Still, the combat is pretty impressive for a game that’s just a year past its Kickstarter. Onward to the vid.

Sorry if it seemed like it. But it wasn’t directed at you. But the other guy a few comments down that said it looked awful. Looking rough is one thing, which it does because of the stage of development it is in. Saying that its killed it for you is another thing all together, like the other guy did.

To me it is all about gameplay, with that said the graphics/animation look like it belongs on a mobile game.

Was I the only one yawning? Also, Tree of Life? Err, Okay. It’s a little overused. Wow. I was expecting a lot more.

Who’s writing anything off. I said 2 words and people got their panties in a bunch as if I kicked a poodle. I’m sure it’ll be fine once they smooth things out, but it’s not smooth now, period.

The terms are still widely used in many different fields. It was in the 1960s that IBM coined the Alpha and Beta testing phases. Alpha was their unit, module or component phase testing. Beta was the initial systems tests.
Even without that “Pre-Alpha” is just a simple way that everyone can identify with as a common term to signify they are in very early stages of testing. Things are supposed to look “rough and unfinished”. However comparing their earlier stages of testing to just about every other game that has been produced on such a scale is phenomenal. They have just hit the one year mark of development time.
I have also tested the game in all phases and can say the game is on an incredible track. Just because the trailer is shoddy for showing gameplay doesn’t mean the actual gameplay is.
Im not a fanboy of this game, there are many posts I have made on their official forums criticizing everything I see wrong with the game and its direction. However to simply write a game off because of a 60 second trailer from very early testing is pretty moronic.

Ket_Viliano The concept of “Tree of Life” has been around in fantasy setting a loooong time. Any sort of link to Judaism has been far removed by now, since it’s so fundamental to fantasy lore of various types. I think you might be looking into this a bit too deep..

Samizdat Ket_Viliano  I don’t learn my stuff from Wikipedia.
The point is that destroying the Tree of Life is quite like burning a cross on your neighbors yard as a victory condition.

MorpayneRADIO  Oh, ok then. I found the lack of any clear gameplay demonstration to be the rough part. The mediocre anims can be improved, the cartoony look likely helps keep the FPS up, but the chaotic scene cuts disguise the lack of any gameplay display.

Ket_Viliano The wikipedia page for “Tree of Life” lists 19 different cultural/mythological sources for the concept that pretty much span the globe geographically.

Not a dev, just an unapologetic game snob.
