Daybreak scrambles new servers after DC Universe Online’s huge Xbox One launch

Here’s a sentence I never thought I’d be typing: DC Universe Online might actually be too successful for its own good.

Since the game’s launch on Xbox One last week, Daybreak has worked to bring online enough servers to meet the new demand. The servers were down this morning for maintenance “to upgrade server capacity” following several rounds of maintenance over the weekend.

One Redditor posted up a photo of the login queues for the game yesterday. Let’s just say you’re gonna want to be a subber for this one, as free players were greeted by a three-hour wait.

The game originally launched on PC and PS3 in January of 2011, followed by the PS3 in 2013.

In other DCUO news, Daybreak launched the spring seasonal event yesterday.

You must be Level 10 in order to participate in the Springtime Seasonal Event. The event will be available on PC, PSN, and Xbox One. The spring-themed fun will only be available through May 31, 2016, so don’t delay – get to Gotham City today!

Daybreak has issued a new statement:

The response and demand we have seen on Xbox One has beaten our wildest expectations. Every night (and most of the days) since launch last Friday, the servers have been completely full. When this happens, players wait in the login queue until someone currently in the game logs out, and that is what leads to very long free player login queue times.

We have added additional server hardware each morning to increase our capacity, so that we can have more players online at once, and will continue to do so. As of this Tuesday morning, we have expanded our overall capacity on US by about 60% and on EU by about 50%.

Our goal is for no one to have to queue at login. We expect moderate increases in capacity each day the rest of this week, and a large increase in capacity (read: a lot of shiny new hardware is on the way) for next Saturday, which should at least double the capacity we had Friday at launch.

Thank you for your patience waiting, and thank you for playing DCUO!
