THIS IS CHARITABLE

A new Oculus trailer this week is intent on reminding everyone that Elite: Dangerous is indeed available on the Oculus Rift VR platform.

“Frontier was one of the earliest Kickstarter backers and developed Elite: Dangerous with VR in mind,” gushes the VR company. “Elite supports cross-platform multiplayer, which means you can explore the galaxy with players across Oculus, consoles, PC, and Mac.”

Frontier is currently plotting the rollout of the Engineers content of the Horizons campaign across PC and console platforms. Check out the video below.

PhoenixDfire Cotic_OP Cardboard 2.0 has significantly better lenses (this means wider FOV) and it’s a better experience than the original for sure.   There are dozens and dozens of apps for Cardboard…

Defector1980 melissaheather It’s early in this gaming ecosystem.   EVE: Valkyrie is perhaps the first attempt by a major player to enter the VR age, with a game made for VR from the ground up.
When EA starts publishing VR titles you’ll know we are in full swing.

Zarkov War Thunder has pretty good air combat and graphics and features airplanes from 1930s up to jet age, but also bombers from WW2, and has some ‘simulation’ modes where you have real takeoffs and landings and you can run out of ammo or fuel.   When you are landing hits on an enemy plane, you see debris come off the planes as they start to come apart from your machine gun fire.   I never thought the graphics lived up to the excellence seen in World of Warplanes, but the majority prefer the features and wider aircraft selection of War Thunder.   I liked WoWP better personally but it doesn’t support the Rift.

Cotic_OP melissaheather I’m biased and I know it’s limited to Samsung devices but I think GearVR is the only worthy “lesser VR visor” option.   its partnership between Oculus and Sammy has given it a nice app store and experience, truly it was a “dress rehearsal” for Oculus and I’ve seen the experience refined greatly over the last year I’ve owned it.
PlayStation VR is probably going to be a real hit, because it’s almost certainly better than GearVR, and I think GearVR is amazing already!

Zarkov My current dream is to work for a VR company.   One of my favourite things in the world is seeing the look on people’s faces the first time they try modern VR experiences.  The jaw dropping and the exclamations of surprise, young and old alike.  It’s pretty magical.

Cotic_OP I’ve been doing the Google Cardboard route. You manage to get that set up correctly and you have a headset which is better than a DK1 and getting close to the DK2 for about £25 (including the software).

Sadric Getting up and walking around your ship is not to be implemented until either next season or the season afterwards. You could get up and look round the cockpit due to problems with the Beta Builds and the way they’d implemented the old SDKs

That Video is last year’s from the 1.3 release so there’s a lot more to it than that. It’s a shame they didn’t show VR footage of driving a buggy while a big Anaconda or corvette flies over your head; a beautiful, but Brown pant, moment.

Sorry, didn’t mean waiting 5 years to get it, I meant that I’m interested in where they take it over the next 5 years.
Been so caught up with Vive and Oculus that I forgot about the cheaper options, Razer’s OSVR looks quite decent for the price although I know nothing else about it – http://www.razerzone.com/gb-en/store/osvr-hdk

GoJammit Sadric It’s not true walking around. It’s the head tracking that’s showing you angles you wouldn’t get without it. Like, if you stand up, it just raises your view above the seat.
