EVE Online is free-to-play on Steam for the weekend

It’s been a long time since EVE Online launched (like, at least a week), and the game is still getting regular updates and improvements. This weekend, as part of the game’s anniversary celebration, you can jump into the game to see all of the improvements for free; the title is available free-to-play on Steam from May 5th through May 8th.

Players can also take advantage of substantial discounts for Core Starter packs, PLEX, subscriptions, content packs, and other various buyables. If you’ve never jumped into the game but always wanted to give it a shot, this weekend will be the time to hop in and start flying around at a substantial discount.

LordSolarMacharius Yeah.  Pretty lame.  I mean, fine if they just want new people, but all the promo text kept going on about returning veterans which… yeah, not so much.  ..|..

Ok, if you have an existing Steam account and bought EVE on it AFTER May 31st, 2013 you can log into the EVE Online account website and redeem a code for 3 free days. I had to go to the forums to get this info. If you bought EVE on Steam before May 31st, 2013 you are SOL. It also doesn’t apply to non-Steam EVE accounts.

melissaheather If you like BDO, chances are you’ll like EVE, if you take your time to learn about all the stuff that you can do. It can be overwhelming, but in a good way.

melissaheather A lot, since skills will train overnight.

Watch this series.

Greaterdivinity while true, it was fun to fly through a recent attack on a citadel in high sec space the other day. I am hoping I am online when it gets destroyed this weekend.

Flying in first person view was cool and challenging since the controls don’t actually follow typical flight controls.

People saying it’s too hard to get started need to watch this simple video series. Follow it, and you will be making millions within the first two hours and from there it really takes off. This will establish a cash flow that you can not get if you start on combat alone early game, cash that you can use to then use to concentrate on what you really want to do if it is not this:

Yes the game can be difficult to understand, or to even KNOW that certain features even exist, but once you learn them they do become quite natural. I came back to the game two weeks ago after having only briefly played in 2005 and while I still learn new things daily, it wasn’t that hard to pick back up.

You are stuck in rookie chat for the first 30 days and then punted. There is another chat called “help” you can join after that, and it is highly recommended.

If you have an existing account, the free-to-play does not apply to you.

Is it not discounted for anyone else right now? It is still showing full price to me.

This is one game that doesn’t seem like it’s a great game for a free weekend.  It involves a lot of investment.
