Saga of Lucimia stares deeper into the darkness in a new video

Everything the light touches is probably not a secret wolf.

Darkness. As you may have noticed from being alive, it makes it really hard to see things. This is due to the fact that our eyes run off of an extremely advanced form of light magic, or perhaps by a biological process which we could not be bothered to look up. Regardless, the lack of light will have a detrimental effect upon what you’re doing in Saga of Lucimia, as detailed in the latest in a series of videos about how darkness is really, really dark.

Previous videos have established that darkness will make seeing things much more difficult, while this one covers the idea of the radius of light around your character. While you can see well enough around you if you’re holding up a torch, anything outside of the torch’s radius will be shrouded in darkness, a definite downside if you’re adventuring in the Land of Hungry Wolves and can’t be back to civilization by suppertime. Check out the video just below.

I doubt if there will be any racial or skill based way to permanently negate darkness.  If there was, it would pretty much mandate that everyone play that race/skill, period.  Who would want an effectively blind person in their party; one gimped by needing to hold a torch or maintain a spell, instead of DPS/Tank/Heal?
Darkness is really an all or nothing sort of feature.  Either you have it, or you don’t.

Very nice demo this time, and looks very interesting.
One thing that was not covered is the role gamma adjustment will play.  In many games, one can all but eliminate darkness by cranking up the gamma setting.  In some games, that will not work at all.
Does SoL plan to address this in some way?  Or is darkness to be just a short adjustment away from being irrelevant?

I know TSW has some of this in their caves, but oh if it could be at this level and outdoors also. Kingsmouth would be freaking terrifying.

I hope they don’t, in eq it felt like you had to play a race with night vision, or you were at a disadvantage. That, or give those races that don’t some massive, and I mean huge, advantage elsewhere
