World of Warcraft fan mods the restoration of Blood Elf zone Quel’Thalas

All hail the modders, doing bizarre things for our fun! Today’s modding hero is a World of Warcraft fan named Hayven, whose YouTube video is making the rounds today. It features his work “restoring” WoW’s Blood Elf zone Quel’Thalas, which was partially destroyed by Arthas and his Scourge army.

“With the rebuilding of Stormwind Park, I thought it would be fun to imagine how Quel’thalas would look if it was actually restored,” Hayven writes. “A revamped Silvermoon/Eversong is something that many players ask for but sadly time seems to stand still in the elven lands. Anyway, I decided to play around with the map to imagine what it would have looked like before it fell to the scourge.”

It’s a fun watch below!

You see, I do have an issue with the video recreation above. That is…
a) A complete homogenizing of 2 zones. Blizz doesn’t do zones like that for WoW. Ever.
b) Along with, that looks nice…but I expect it would get boring really quick.
c) How do the creators of this video plan to rework and redistribute the quests to reflect the both zones restructuring?
d) What happened with Zul’Aman and Zeb Nova?
e) Who says they’re doing this to introduce flight into the two zones? Blizz could likely make flying possible without any real notable changes to the Eversong or Ghostlands.
That all said, I do see Eversong redesigned to push back the waning influence of the Scourge and make some notable rebuilding of The Scar. While updating some of the quests to reflect that. At the same time leaving Ghostlands as a forgotten remnant while containing it’s blight. So there is no real need for an entire redesign in IMO. Just an update, or two that suggests those zones are keeping up with the times. :)

Reminds me of the texture and model replacer videos from the Noggaholics. Snoman’s Ironforge and Lightshore is still one of the prettiest things from WoW that I’ve ever seen.

So gooood

Sorenthaz Michael18 Like BRD, or UBRS/LBRS, going into Scholo the first time with people who don’t know what they’re really doing, will take a while. Though a competent group can run through the dungeon in about an hour or so. But the Dungeon really wasn’t tuned to be a 5 man till later in it’s life.

Zuji MikeMinier Belegorm Read the section, “The Sunwell Restored” here:
http://wowwiki.wikia.com/wiki/Sunwell
While it gives the hint of maybe them eventually overcoming their addiction to magic, it does not magically cure them.  Addiction is a devil unto itself.  When you go to the Sunwell during the Quel”Delar quest chain in WotLK, it is heavily guarded, suggesting the blood elves are far from over their addiction.

ManastuUtakata Damonvile Come on. I mean, I see your point, but let’s have a short roundup of what a restoration of QT would entail:

-1 Complete graphical recreation of the entire zone, Silvermoon and every single building in it (because you know – flying)
-2 Complete recreation of the quest flow (because it’s a mess, and many current quests require a devasted QT)
-3 Complete lore rewrite not only for QT, but also for Ghostlands
-4 Well, what about Ghostlands?
-5 What about the Landfall quests in Silvermoon? Or any other quest later in the game that references Silvermoon in some way.
-6 Everything else I forgot, and I am sure there’s lots of it.

Yes, they *should* do it. But I can see that it would be a *major* undertaking for them, and not really on the level of some dude doing a video.

MikeMinier Belegorm Uh – havent they been cured of that addiction during the events of the Sunwell patch? Lady Liadrin sure isn’t addicted. Then again WoW lore has become such a clusterfuck by now…

mourasaint Sorenthaz Michael18 Actually, I can. I ran it precisely ten months ago. (Holy hell batman, lack of content.) I was tanking the normal Imperator, and it all went to shit after our DK off tank decided he wanted to be the main tank. So he ran his mobs right over to me, Tried to deathgrip the boss (That doesn’t work.) Didn’t pull aggro off me, I got aggro from the stupid mana mobs and the stupid boss, Died almost instantly, Dk tank died, Blamed me, Rage quit, and then my guild had a good laugh for a solid ten minutes about how absurdly stupid that all was, and then proceeded to down Imperator with a seriously undergeared off tank druid hastily. Good times man, Good times. The raids are not bad now. They’ve just been getting better. I remember the Nightmare of 40man MC. HELL, WE DID THAT FOR THE TEN YEAR. TURNED OUT GREAT RIGHT? Ug. Say what you want about current wow, But the raiding has never been better. And certainly wasn’t better in Vanilla.

Belegorm In the long term, it is suggested that their dependence on fel magic will eventually lead to and evolution into a new species.

Belegorm Blood elves are high elves.  They gave themselves the name “blood” elves to honor their fallen brethren.
