RIFT introduces the Mind of Madness as a new Intrepid Adventure

Cray-cray.
Your newest Intrepid Adventure in RIFT, should you choose to undertake it, is to take on the Mind of Madness. That seems like it would be better suited by an adjective other than “intrepid,” to be honest. Chasing Lord Arak into insanity just plain seems like a bad idea, no matter how badly you might want to deliver the guy a solid swording. Still, it’s a chance to see all the story and landscape of the raid while being a more casual player, so perhaps it’s a good thing overall.

Players will be facing all-new bosses and challenges in the adventure while earning armor sharing the iconic appearance from the original Mind of Madness raid. Are you afraid to go a little bit crazy for that? Hopefully not. You can jump into the Mind of Madness from the game’s Instant Adventure window, so hop on in, join up with nine other players, and reflect on the choices that brought you to literally pursuing insanity.

Veldan SwobyJ “however nice that is, it doesn’t bring players back to the game.” Then why do expansions release with marketing for it? Why does Legion tout Demon Hunter?

Anyway, I wasn’t talking about quality of content as much as rate of content release. To me, RIFT will be ‘dead’ not when ‘so many players leave that I don’t see it as worth me playing’ but rather ‘so little players exist and Trion doesn’t see it worth it to invest money in developing new content patches and ‘expansions”. Referring to: “If it goes much beyond 2 years without a new expansion then I think Rifts days are numbered.”

SwobyJ Veldan ZenDadaist Then you two have had signifiantly more polite iHK IA groups than I have!

SwobyJ Fair enough. I guess it was a large patch indeed. But the impact on gameplay was rather minimal.
Primalist, however nice, is not content. It’s a new way to play existing content, and however nice that is, it doesn’t bring players back to the game, or make people like me excited.
The warfront is nice. Much QQ about it, but I like it. People always whined and will always whine about every warfront anyway.
The dungeon may as well not exist. Trion AGAIN made the mistake of introducing a new dungeon to the queue but making it harder, which has the same result as it did before: people requeue as soon as it pops. After all, people choose the path of least resistance to their daily reward. So if you’re just doing your daily dungeons, you’ll never get to play Rhaza’de, because everyone else refuses to leave spawn and just stands there waiting for a requeue.

Veldan eekamouse Ocho is on vacation and likely going to start 4.0 info after that. Plenty of hints to those who were paying attention (no accusation, I’m just talking about those relatively obsessed with RIFT).

Veldan SwobyJ New Calling for the first time, the Primalist. Yes, for Credits/Plat/Money, but it is a feature of the patch.Planetouched Wilds zone. I accept and may agree with your criticisms (though I haven’t done enough in the zone myself yet), but it is still at *least* one of the very largest content releases of the game. Maybe it isn’t a Dendrome, and maybe maybe it isn’t an Ember Isle in terms of widely recognized appeal, but it isn’t remotely small. Also I don’t run through quest chains once. I’m one of the weirdos with at least a couple story alts that focus on that content to do more than once so I can understand it better. And while I’m a little annoyed that there isn’t some big new open world feature this time like onslaughts and strongholds, nightmare rifts are still a thing and PTW still has zone events I see plenty of players doing for the time being. Maybe it isn’t as exciting Ember Isle or attracts as many players for a longer term like Dendrome, but it is still big imo.Bronze Tomb warfront. Indeed it uses a lot of older assets, but its still a new warfront with a new game mode.Rhaza’de Canyons expert dungeon. You didn’t count this. Dendrome patch itself ‘only’ had a chronicle.(Kinda) Mind of Madness 20-man raid. Okay, it didn’t release right on the patch date itself, but it was part of the 3.4 process, as the story quests ended their staged release.
So a Calling (depending on perspective), a zone, a warfront, a dungeon, and a raid (depending on perspective). I’d say this all is very substantial and if one technically removes the X.0 versions (1.0, 2.0, 3.0) and doesn’t include the F2P transition part of the Dendrome (2.3) patch, this indeed can be considered the biggest ‘single content patch’ RIFT has ever done. It may not be particularly enticing to some, like any patch, but I give Trion credit here, and consider 3.4 practically a small expansion to the game, albeit again not a large one and not something marketed as anything but a patch.

If it wasn’t for Into the Wilds, then sure, I’d be VERY VERY concerned for RIFT. But they did Into the Wilds, along with the other earlier stuff in Nightmare Tide, and they’re apparently, if the rumors are correct, about to speak about a 4.0 expansion (Plane of Fire?) for maybe this year, so no, I’m not remotely thinking “RIFT’s days are numbered”. It at the very least is likely to get content into 2017, if one does want to number any days, barring any surprises.

ZenDadaist I don’t get how this is a thing in IA? Besides the fact that I never saw anyone complain about other people’s IA builds, IA is designed to be a bunch of random upscaled low levels thrown together into a raid. As far as I know, everyone is aware of that.
Dungeons are a different thing. There, people expect you to play something appropriate.

SwobyJ Was it? I found it a rather underwhelming patch. Apart from the weeklies, which take like 15 mins total, I never even go to PTW. It’s cool that it had a voice acted quest chain, but like any quest chain, you run through it once and then you’re done. Nothing like the Dendrome, which had strongholds and awesome zone events that kept me playing their almost every day for months.

eekamouse Yeah, I’ve been thinking this for a while. I expected at least an announcement of an expansion by now.

eekamouse They will be announcing soon IMO. Within the next couple months. And Planetouched Wilds/Into the Wilds patch was the largest patch they’ve ever done, except perhaps the 3.3 Dendrome + F2P transition patch.
