I’ve teased the late Warhammer Online plenty over the years for its disaster-dungeons, but it had something I’ve never seen topped in an MMORPG, ever: It had one hell of a tank class.
The Ironbreaker was the most badass, hilarious tank I’ve ever played in an MMO, and I’ve played a lot of them. It wasn’t the PvE tanking that sold me on my beefy dwarven gal, either; it was the PvP tanking. There was just nothing better than bulldozing my way into a fight, smashing people with shields, taunting — yes, taunting — and knocking Destro peeps right off the battlements. Yeah, I didn’t do much actual point-for-point damage, but I had too much fun to care when people would literally run the other way to escape me.
I’d love to recapture the hilarity of that class in PvP and PvE. What’s the best tank class you’ve played in an MMORPG?
