Black Desert expands world and PvP with Valencia, refuses costume alteration refunds

Black Desert is getting a massive update on June 1st when the first chunk of the Valencia update is launched. According to Daum, Valencia will include “hundreds” of new quests, expanding the world’s size by 30%.

“With Valencia Part One, players will be able to journey to an expansive desert region where exploration will take a completely different turn. Extreme heat during daytime requires proper hydration and intense cold at night requires players to stay warm. Additionally, a new weather effect, sandstorm, inflicts damage unless players set up a tent to protect themselves. The minimap will be unavailable, but getting lost is not all bad―who knows what treasure your shovel may strike? Regular horses and wagons are not ideal to traverse the desert and will see their speed lowered. Thankfully, players will be able to purchase Camels from NPCs, which fare much better in these harsh conditions. Another new mount, the Guild-owned Elephant, serves as a powerful war mount in sieges.”

This morning’s patch kicks off the Road to Valencia events.

Past this update, the studio is promising Node and Castle Siege warfare tests for June 15. “Expect epic large-scale battles never before seen in any MMORPG,” Daum says.

In other Black Desert news, players are once again raising the alarm over one of Daum’s cash-shop deals — this one a $30 costume that was altered rather dramatically and retroactively in the May 6th patch, to the dismay of those who had purchased it. As usual, Daum is not granting refunds for the undocumented change to the costume.

Everything I’m reading about Black Desert is making me sad lately. If it’s not Ninja getting delayed, it’s more cash-shop nonsense. If it’s not that it’s something else about how terribly they are responding to the community. They built such a great game but are managing it like morons.

Congratulations! However, many people can do that and also realize that developers should probably stop this nonsense of: What you see, might be what you get.

People aren’t looking for perfection, they’re looking for a straight deal. When a mass exodus occurs and you’re wondering why the game you’re digging is closing down… all of those “trivial” details were the cuts slowing draining the good will from players ever trusting the developer.

People have done this dance with other Korean MMOs, and all that baggage is going to get dumped on Daum if they act the fool and pretend it’s not going to apply to them.

It astonishes me the kind of minutiae that people will rage on.  I guess I’m just wired differently.  I’ve read all the stuff in the thread below and pretty much none of it prevents me from logging in and doing what I like, which is wandering around 3d worlds and digging the scenery and vibes and sampling what the game offers.
I must be a way, way, way more casual player than a lot of the folks who have been giving their opinions.

I uninstalled this game today, so done with that ridiculous grind, didnt even reach lvl 40 nefore i realized thats all the game has to offer.

Grind for silver, grind for more stats and no cosmetics except in the cash shop.

Draugris I completely agree with you on that, but so far they’ve said they’re looking into smoothing that power curve so hopefully it won’t happen.  I also played KR (not as long) but I saw the gear gap first hand.  As we both said however, if it does happen, that’s pretty much the game there for competitive players.

Well i should have said that i spent around 9 months in korea prior the release in the eu/us. I did see people in +15 gear getting one shotted by people in+17 for example. The power gap was horrible. So horrible that i think if the power gap will be anywhere near that one in korea that this will in the long run drive away new players and people who are not able to grind 24/7. This game is already gear > level > skill so i really hope that they don´t make it worse in the western release.
