Beta testers actually used Overwatch’s commendation system for good

That's a lot of people.

Still feeling bereft of Overwatch in this period between the beta and the launch? Can’t help you there, but Blizzard has expounded on its 9.7-million-people-played-the-beta statistic from last week with a new infographic. The studio says there were nearly 40 million matches played with average lengths between 6 and 9 minutes apiece. Solider 76, Widowmaker, Reinhardt, and Mercy were the most popular toons. And hey, you know that feature that lets you commend people on your team and the other team? Beta players chose to commend their enemies’ skills 72 million times. Nifty.

Meanwhile, Blizzard has released its latest gorgeously drawn Overwatch comic, this one titled Mission Statement and focusing on Pharah.

so on average people played ~4 matches not that impressive.  Many tried it but did not play long.

Sorenthaz BritoBruno I woulda thought the same, until i got the Gun Mettle update patch notes.

All in all, the scene is alive. The game is still pretty popular and i play quite a bit of it.

BritoBruno Sorenthaz Yeah I had a pretty big TF2 phase like 5 years ago or so.  But haven’t really kept up with it since the Mann VS Machine stuff.

JimGriffiths Loopstah BalsBigBrother I understand how the system works; what i’m saying is that i believe i should be changed. A “play of the game” should not just be about the kills, it should also showcase healers being able to save 2, 3 players from certain death while rezzing their fallen teammate within a 10 second window. Or a tank getting pounded on and managing to break through a turtle.
I’m sure these things would be very hard to detect by the game as there is not much quantitative metrics to their gameplay, but simply showcasing Junkrat every single time as play of the game will quickly lose its lustre. People will just get jaded that they will never be showcased in their non-damage roles.

Sorenthaz BritoBruno Yeah. Any game has a loyal playerbase, and TF2 is one of them. It’s also big enough to have some competitiveness, and they’re waiting for the competitive matchmaking to arrive to make the game take off better.
TF2 is just too fun, like the video i said. Overwatch is great too, and i think anyone can have fun in both without having to choose.

BritoBruno Sorenthaz Cool, interesting to hear that such a thing has actually been growing since it feels like TF2’s spotlight came and went many years ago at this point.

Loopstah BritoBruno Bear in mind, Array is a competitive TF2 gamer, that pretty much, as any other TF2 competitive gamer, had to hear how tf2 was going to be killed. He even says the same thing you say in his video, how they aren’t even the same genre in his perspective, and he also says that OW has too little TF2 involved.
I get his opinion is subjective. That’s why i took a great laugh, and i said i don’t agree with everything. ( I agree with the spam/chockpoints and lack of Hitscan, tho. Projectiles are the bane of high ping. )
I didn’t felt like sharing a objective video because there’s a crapload of these alrerady. They also compare Battleborn, Gigantic and Paladins, and truth be told, they always come with Overwatch on top. Even my close friends, which i play TF2 constantly, said that they weren’t able to play TF2 so much now that they played OW for a while.
To each their own. But remember, that OW, while a independent product, will also attract the same crowd that TF2 attracts, FPS lovers. So, you’ll get some attriction from time to time.

Sorenthaz BritoBruno Yes. A small one, but it has. It’s also growing ever since Valve started several improvements for balancing, and i believe it took a good increase after the Gun Mettle update.
The community is small but loyal too, and the gamers are pretty good.

Digest There are no games that “deserve more attention”. Every game gets as much attention as appropriate for it. Amount of attention does not equal quality.
