Star Trek Online discusses graphical upgrades for its console launch

look out it is a vortex
The graphics could be better in Star Trek Online. That’s not really a value judgement; the game has been out for six years now, graphical technology marches on, and so forth. But with the game’s console launch just around the corner, the developers have taken the opportunity to make the game a fair bit prettier, with more advanced options for lighting creating a significant graphical upgrade for the game as a whole.

The latest development diary explains that the game’s materials and geometry are solid and get regularly updated with new patches, but the lighting model was outdated and frequently led to too much contrast between light and dark spaces. The new model allows for far more lights to be used and more organic lighting displays, with the hopes that it won’t have an adverse effect upon players using older PCs. Check out all the details if you want to have a bit more light shone on the particulars.

If I recall correctly, there were only four lights.

There are plenty of star wars games that don’t feature lights lightsabers…

Dixa And what’s the difference in begging for box money, sub money, expansion money and money for sparkle pony. Every game is predatory. And Blizzard gets away pretty fine.
I see no problem here, dude. You can always play minetest for free on whatever device you have.

Seems odd to have a graphical update for a console release, but an opportunity is an opportunity. It’s good to see improvements coming to the game.

So now the same 70 or so missions, reworked a half-dozen times since launch instead of adding new missions, will look great!
Still no exploration though. In Star Trek. No exploration. That’s like a Star Wars game without Lightsabers.

Oh the laws on gambling are very clear. It’s why pinball (yes pinball) was illegal for so long in America until someone came along and proved it wasn’t merely a game of chance. The lockbox crap is clearly a game of chance. It’s just nobody outside of gaming gives two shits about gaming, let alone gambling within gaming. Maybe when fantasy sports sites finally get classified as online gambling, they’ll start looking deeper at RNG lockbox gambling.

I wonder if the predatory nature of the cash shop in this game when combined wiht consoles and kids stealing their moms’ CC to buy points…..could we finally start to get some proper laws governing what is CLEARLY gambling with these lockboxes?
