Overwatch’s launch day has arrived; here’s our giant roundup

Perhaps the bank should be re-evaluated.

Blizzard’s Overwatch, the shooty remains of what was once destined to be MMORPG Project Titan, formally launches tonight at midnight — if you’re in London, anyway. For those of us here in the US, we’re looking at go-times of 7 p.m. EDT at Massively OP’s HQ in Philly to 4 p.m. PDT over on the west coast where Blizzard is. If you’ve already preordered, you should probably go make sure you’re all downloaded and patched up because it’s launch day and nothing can go wrong. Right?

Let’s round up some cool Overwatch stories in the meantime!

The game isn’t out yet and there’s already a clone because of course there is. MMO Culture reports that a Chinese clone called Legend of Titan was shamelessly revealed for mobile at a con earlier this month.

Here’s a heartwarmer: The daughter of an Overwatch fan drew up a sketch of her own proposed Overwatch character, Birst, and her dad sent it off to Blizz for feedback… but epic Blizz artist Roman Kenney turned it into a real drawing. So Blizz, when can we play this new character?

This past Sunday, Coca-Cola got into the Overwatch spirit with a Launch Celebration event at selected Cinemark theaters (that were utterly sold out, mind you) with cinematics, panel videos, and collectibles.

More hype! Here’s a shot from @RuzgofDi of one of the massive Overwatch dolls — I mean, action figures — that sprung up this weekend in a few big cities (Genji is in Paris and Pharah is in Busan, reports Blizzard Watch). Me, I love how they put Tracer outside a Sephora.

And finally, the game’s last animated short is out — this one’s called Hero and focuses on the vigilante known as Soldier: 76.

Enjoy the launch festivities, everyone!

Karl_Hungus “You must not be reading every post in this thread.”
We did, your original statement came off as exceptionally condencinding, by making the mental connection that anyone who collects stuff is not a real adult and most likely a virgin. You’re trying to patch it now that you realised you goofed, but it doesn’t change the fact that you were a dick about this whole thing.

It’s also extra ironic that it comes from a hardcore WoW fan, the game that is considered the de facto ‘no life loser game’ by the mainstream crowds. Shouldn’t you know better that hobbies don’t define a person?

Karl_Hungus wjowski deekay_zero MorpayneRADIO Telos_ While i agree with you in most cases, i don’t in this. And while i don’t think i classify myself as an adult beyond my age ( 26 ), i’m also sure that someone with different tastes can be a adult just because.
Adults also steal, kill, shoot other people with M1 Grand rifles given to them by their loved ones. Does any of this make you more or less adult?
I think “mature” is the word we’re looking for here, and imo, still something as subjective as everything.

Karl_Hungus It’s a little hard to believe that you don’t collect anything when you collect those sweet succulent achievement points on WoW. Some people collect card board, other people collect virtual cardboard. Either way a collection is still a collection.

deekay_zero DPandaren There is literally not tactical advantage to having a wider screen when the Field of View is capped off at any ratio. As I said, wider screen just makes the fish eye lens effect much less pronounced when playing on a wider screen.

A FoV of 120 on TF2 will display the same exact same scene on a 16:9, 4:3, and 21:9 screen ratio. Having a wider display does not mean that you’ll see more on the screen, that will only apply to a game like Mass Effect 3, where there is no lock on the FoV, because that game just automatically assumes that the screen is 16:9, even though it’s set to display at a 21:9 screen resolution. If the screen is too short, everything will just squish together, making the images skinny. If the screen is too long, things will just look fat.

In short, having a wider screen gives zero advantage is there is a hard cap to the Field of View. In Overwatch’s case that’s 103 degrees.

DPandaren deekay_zero eh 16:9 was a huge advantage in css early onbefore lcd monitors were common compared to 4:3.

surround is a massive advantage in games in pvp (tho have to adapt and avoid not turning your head instead of the camera sometimes – or rather strike a balance).

in my consideration of buying a 21:9 monitor this year the tactical advantage of seeing more than 16:9 is a pretty big consideration for me.

and noting that there’s even argument over this with regards to 16:9 vs 16:10 which is far less than vs 4:3 or 21:9.

deekay_zero It really isn’t. Especially if a game has a maximum FoV of 103. All that it means is that when I play at the maximum FoV is that there’s going to be less fish eye camera going on. Same thing with CSS added 16:9, it doesn’t matter when there’s a cap on the FoV on sv_pure servers.
