Smite continues to grow. Over 20 million have now played (was 14 million last time we published # in Jan. at SWC). pic.twitter.com/EYJmqBT6m9

SMITE is a free-to-play MOBA, so these aren’t exactly box sales, and they’re not active players, either, just registrations. Still, it’s a shiny round number and good news for one of the few major MOBAs online.

Now how many of that 20 millions have logged more than 500 hours of game play?
Sweet, good for them! It’s rough going against LoL and DOTA2 if you don’t have dat Blizzcash and they’ve managed to carve a little niche out for themselves. Of course, registered players and concurrent are two veerrrry different beasts, but I still wish them the best.
Sorenthaz Zyrish blackcat7k I would never needlessly tie myself to a third party to play a game that has it’s own launcher.
Sorenthaz maybe I’ll try it some day.
ProfessionalNoob Yeah I’m there with ya. I even put in some money to instantly unlock all characters when they had a super sale on that. Played the tutorial, had fun with it. Then played other things. I just have trouble sitting down and trying to get good enough at a MOBA to make it worth it.
I’m one of those 20 million.
I think i made it past the tutorial, maybe. I really wanted to support the local boys too, but I just don’t like MOBA gameplay.
SMITE has the best combat I’ve seen in MOBA. Its basically the combat I wish MMOs had!
Yep I played it for 14 minutes according to steam…..grats?
mourasaint I learned a new word today, ‘sordid’. Thanks :)
(Not agreeing with your assessment of MOBA as a genre though)
SMITE is much too good of an IP to be relegated to the sordid MOBA genre.Â
Hope the get creative with the brand.
