Wurm Online introduces player cave structures

You know what’s awesome? Player housing in MMOs. You know what’s even more awesome? Player housing in MMOs that is also underground. That’s more or less what you’re getting in this week’s Wurm Online patch, which implements PvE-oriented cave dwellings that can be built up to eight stories. Down, we imagine.

The game is also updating with new rift invasions, spawning on all servers. “Team up, kill creatures and sacrifice their hearts to bring the next wave,” the patch notes command. “Collect loot dropped by Rift creatures, with shoulder pads, rings, bracelets providing over two dozen different bonuses! […] Invasions will be marked with a red light shining into the sky, they will appear 3 days prior to an invasion on PvE servers, and 1 hour prior to the invasion on PvP servers.”

Mines in worm aren’t 3D unless they’ve somehow revamped it since I quit. The tiles are basically massive pillars underground, and the ‘bottom’ is when you hit the water level (I forget how many rocks under, but enough that you can run a ship through.)…so I’m guessing this is just more jury-rigging of the coding that they’ve been doing.
But this was a requested feature by some of the more vocal forum crowd…so more of the hermits could make their seal-able boat cave sanctuaries.

Yay?

I only played the unlimited version but the bottom of the world was sea level…..sort of. Even in a cave you’d hit water at sea level.
I assume the cave buildings will just be clear a big space in the rocks and build a house?
