One Shots: Fire + ice = mess

What do you get when you mix fire and ice? A steamy combination of incredible pictures… and an awful mess.

Steampower Girl noticed that in this rare instance, Final Fantasy XIV did not obey the simple laws of thermodynamics: “Some inattentive summoner didn’t notice their Ifrit egi was off making incriminating glares at the snowfolk. I was quick with the screenshot key for evidence in case a wet bow tie, mustache, and beret turned up where this snow gent once stood!”

Then again, you can buy tubes of “Icy Hot,” so I guess anything is possible with science and market research.

“A fairly simple submission today,” sent in the incredibly complex Tyler. “When I learned that Gre DeLisle voiced the female bounty hunter in Star Wars: The Old Republic, I set out to design a bounty hunter resembling the Nova Terra character from StarCraft, who is voiced by the same actress. It took a few trips to the recustomization console and some time to find the perfect gear, but I think it turned out well in the end. ‘Ghost reporting.'”

Can’t say I ever recall seeing a Pirate101 screenshot sent in for this column, so props to Valorie for being at the vanguard of an important movement in video game culture. Here her swashbuckler is facing her first tutorial enemy. Is it possible to even lose to these?

“It’s not often you can say a video game story had some bloody heart and soul poured into it, posted Zyrusticae. “Can hardly wait for the follow-up. I LOVE that the story doesn’t just end with you completing your journey. Everything that follows on after this is unique to this game. Nothing else even tries what Blade and Soul is doing.

Have you hugged the Hugmonster lately? You might after this submission!

“Being from actual Transylvania, I often find myself rolling my eyes at the way the region is portrayed in fiction. I was very (pleasantly) surprised with how well The Secret World recreated the architecture and style of the villages around here. I would have loved to go out and take pictures of the buildings and places which inspired the locations in TSW but since I don’t drive and I suck at photography, I used street siew for the below. I barely ventured beyond the walls of the village, so I can’t wait to explore all the rest.”

Along those lines, my weekly screenshot challenge to you is all about associations. Have you ever snapped an in-game pic of something that totally reminded you of a real-world location, or another game, or something else that’s meaningful to you? Why not share that with us!

Every week, One Shots shines a spotlight on the best community screenshots from your MMO adventures. If you have a great pic to share, email it to justin@massivelyop.com with the subject “One Shots.” Make sure that the picture is over 880px wide and comes with a description or story!
